;D I have always wondered if the Modern Bass professional would be able to catch as many fish if ?
He did not have a depth finder fish locater or any such device . I would like to see what they could do with just a boat and thier tackle ?

I think they would.   Time on the water is the most critical aspect in my opinion and they have plenty of that!

Who wouldn't be lost without their electronics.  Last night I hit a rock while getting my partner's spinnerbait unhung.  It broke the tmotor transducer.  It like to have driven me crazy for the rest of the night not knowing the water's depth in the front of the boat.  I imagine I would have been beside myself if I had been fishing for money instead of a good time.

I think they use it more for looking at depth and structure than for fish. But, when you understand your quarry then it is kind of like looking for fish because of the bottom stuff you are looking for. ::)

I agree with Jack.
Some of us ?older? guys have fished most of our lives without sonar units and we have been catching fish. I think that this is just a tool that pro?s and the rest of us have come to depend on.

After I know where the drop offs, creek channels, and humps are I really don't use a fish finder except to tell me what the water temp is.

I believe the electronics are most important when fishing a lake you are not familiar with, and you are wanting to get onto fish quickly. Not so important for lakes or places we fish all of the time. If given enough time on a lake, most of us could narrow down a couple of good areas to fish by looking at bottom composition, contours of the land, and submerged vegetation.

They would still catch fish,..they'd just have to go back to the way it was done in the old days,..where folks learned the bottoms with a heavy jig etc!  That takes a lot more time though,..so during tournies I suspect that everyone would concentrate more  on the  shallows & shoreline!
If you're a fisherman, ya gotta fish!
