#1 backlasher and I met up at the lake around 5:30am yesterday. A “cold” front (high pressure) had moved through here Friday and we had a breeze out of the North. This would be my first time swimming a jig under these conditions but I wanted to show my buddy that what I was telling him about this technique was true. The bite was really tough and we fished the first few hours with a couple of hits here and there. In talking with a couple of other fishermen we learned that the bite was slow for everyone.
We went back to the area where I had caught a couple of 3lb bass a few day before but someone else was fishing there. We motored around a bit until he moved. We moved into the spot and wouldn’t you know it we drew a blank. We started up the same path out of the arm as the guy ahead of us did and BAM I got a really nice hit. 4lbs even! As we continued around the lake, without Kregg even getting a bite, I noticed that he was fishing his jig really fast. I suggested he slow down and shortly after that he got his first jig fish. We lost a few but one I had hooked up was really huge. It might have been a catfish but I’m gona swear it was a bass. We never got to see it as it just let go.
At one point during the day we entered into the conversation about when a bass goes from being a minnow to a fish, but we decided to skip that thought and go with a total fish count. We ended the day with 16 fish caught and a convert to the idea of swimming a jig.
I understand that we sometimes just BS on this site, but guys I have to tell you that there is information that is shared that really makes a difference. I’m a slow learner but you guys have really helped my fishing. I just wanted to say THANKS!
