Actually seeing what you are catching
« on: January 26, 2011, 10:00:16 AM »
Yesterday was the maiden voyage of my new front mount side/down scan transducer.  Lots of places around here have hard water so I decided to go to upper Bull Shoals where it rarely freezes it being 4th in a chain of lakes.

The water temp was 43° which is 8° warmer than other lakes.  I cruised around for a while looking at my back scanner and found some schools of fish.  I assumed that they were white bass and that is the only species that I caught.  The first pic is some I drove over.  The other pic is when I dropped the tm and got serious.  I found a bunch of these schools and could pic up one out of everyone but they would quickly move on me and the chase would be on.  I found lots of schools with no bite at all so some of them must have been shad.

Nope.  I caught them on my itty bitty new plastic baits that are supposed to be for specs.  These were sandies.  I'm gonna try them again on Friday.  It is supposed to be bout 60° by then.

Yes 60° is what it is supposed to be down around Branson.  That is about 50 miles south of here and almost 500' lower.  It is almost always warmer down there and very hilly so you can get out of the wind unlike the ponds to the north that I usually fish.
