Cold fronts aren't always a bad thing
« on: August 25, 2010, 02:30:08 PM »
Magoo took me to Pommy this morning.  We got there at darkthirty.  The full moon was out and we could have been there all night long.

A cold front had come through and dropped the air temp to 59° and his gizmo said the surface temp was 75° which seemed to be a bit much of a drop but who knows.

A good stiff north breeze was hitting the bank across from the ramp so we tied on some spinnerbaits and beat it to death.  We caught 1/2 dozen lmb and had several misses.  So I pulled out a swim jig and put away the spinnerbait.  I got those short hitters to hang on to the swim jig.  It wasn't long before he was swimming a jig instead of his spinnerbait.  I also caught 3 on a buzz bait.  We wound up taking a dozen off a 1/4 mile of rocky bank.

We moved on up in the creek and caught another 8 on the swim jig.  He tried some other baits but they didn't produce.  I stayed with the chart/white swim jig.  The buzzbait had run its course.

When that bite played out we headed down to the main lake where I thought we could do some tubein'.   That was a pipe dream.  I caught 2 down there.

We moved back up the creek and found fish on bridge piers.  We caught 15 swimming the jigs by them.  His trolling motor played out in the wind and we had to quit at noon.  We wound up with 35 lmb and 2 spots.  We didn't keep an accurate count but probably had 20 keepers with no big fish even on.

None of the fish were deeper than 5 or 6 feet except the pier fish which were suspended near the surface over 40 fow.  Not the greatest of days but I'll take 37 bass every trip and be a happy camper.

Whoa !  I can barely do that when they're all in  a barrel.  ;D Good job ! One more good testimony for the swim jig.

Don't you have some vacation time coming?  I'm only a few hours away and motels around Pommy are prolly cheap.

As a matter of fact I still have a week….but my taking a fishing trip this year might just cause the “Perfect Storm”! The wife and I are getting ready to drop a chunk of change and pay our house off. We agreed that to do this we would not take vacations this year. Let’s see, debt free…fishing trip, debt free….fishing trip…..Oh man, I ani’t gona be able to sleep! ::)

Scott there is nothing better than a mortgage burning party.  They don't happen nearly as often as vacations.
