D'oh moments
« on: September 12, 2009, 06:00:37 PM »
Hit up a small lake this afternoon for a few hours.I notice my spinning setup and what i had tied on wasn't casting worth a darn.I checked the reel thinking maybe something was catching on the spool.Couldn't find anything wrong,so i just ignored it and kept casting.

About two hour later I notice I missed threading the line through one of the guides on the rod.

 :idiot :suicide

Cut off and re-threaded the line and it cast just fine.

Fishing is getting tough now....3rd stunk in a row.My season is coming to an end real soon.

I've cut off the main line instead of the left over tag more times than i care to count.

It doesn't pay to tie a knot in a hurry.... :-[

I can't tell you how many times I have hurriedly changed spinnerbaits only to cut the line on the one I had been using and then toss it in the lake like I do the 3" pieces of tag line.

Nothing like dumping out your tackle box.  After I did this 3 or 4 times I got into the habit of checking the latches before I picked it up.

LOL,  I've never made a mistake, tied the wrong lure on the line, cut the wrong line, cut the line and threw the lure in the water to watch it sink.  Nope never done any of those bone head moves.   ::2

That's me too, but three times in a row with frozen hands and sub 20 degree weather. Talk about getting pissed and laughing at the same time, and you take 20 plus seconds to tie a darned Palomar knot. D'oh!!!!

well speaking of doh moments, one just happened this Sunday's Tournament and cost me a lot of tourney points and any chance at AOY, cut and pasted from my clubs website..............

Well, as alot know my trolling motor kicked the bucket at around 12:00 on Sunday afternoon, no power no nothing, want to thank Bob and Barry for taking the time for a quick trouble shoot at the ramp afterwards and gave ideas where to start looking.
So yesterday my neighbor came over as I was outside taking some of the electrical outlets apart.
He brought a meter over and it was giving power at the point of connection, but the t motor would not work, so at this point were thinking it's the foot pedal button or power switch on the t-motor.
I had an older one in the shed, brought that out and hard wired it to the wires from the battery.
Still Nothing, he says you sure this one works, yep, just the shaft piece is broke. He said it isn't the motors then, you have power at the connection it's just losing it some where when trying to run those.

Then he says you checked all your battery connections right? Yeah there all connected, well lets take a look back there anyway.

Yes they were all connected but one of the positives was loose so he tightens it and we go and hit the pedal button and Bingo!!!!

I'm very happy it was something simple but man did I feel stupid and even more aggrivated that I lost 3 hours of fishing time and all I had to do was tighten a stinking wing nut   :shoothead

I never use the wing nuts that come with the battery. I pitch them and get stainless steel nylon locking nuts.

I've had to buy an extra cheapo life jacket a few times. :hammer
