Depth Finders
« on: April 07, 2011, 03:18:01 AM »
I have had another thought: I’m betting you guys are wishing I could get on the water and stop this nonsense!
Do you guys leave your depth finders on at all times? I do, and it doesn’t matter if I’m over 65 fow or sitting in the middle of weeds growing within inches of the surface. I’m all electric so the minute I push off the T-motor hit’s the water and the depth finder goes on. I have read of Pro’s that say they turn theirs off so as not to spook the fish; yet I have caught fish jigging right alongside my transducer. Your thoughts on this?

cut it off. Your fishing there anyway and you may as well cut it off as to possibly pick up that one extra bite for the weigh-in  ...oh wait!, .....  ;D

I turn mine on in the parking lot so the gps will have time to acquire before the boat is in the water.  I turn mine off when I turn off the main power switch back in the parking log.  I could not sit in the boat with the df not on, it would feel like I had my pants unzipped. :D  The closest I could come to turning it off would be to stop the chart.

I leave mine on all the time when on the water. Why have one if you're just going to turn it off? I have been on the water with four different pros and they never turned theirs off.

I've recently been thinking about getting a cheap one for the little two man bote' t-motor. That way i could see what i'm running over at least going from area to area or just fishing along. I know i'm missing so much by just chunking and winding. I was just carrying on about cutting it off,Pondhopper. When my TR was running, I don't think i ever cut mine off while on the water. Seems i remember Denny Brauer telling me he cuts his off though (or at least he use to) when he was fishing docks or extremely shallow.

depends where i"m fishing.  If its the local lakes I never turn it on except to get the water temp.  Everywhere else I'm like jigman.  Its always on.

If we are fishing flats and I can see the bottom I usually turn it off.
