where did that technique come from. I have my ideas but not sure. Anybody know who started it? and was it called that right off the bat?

Buzz we did that around here over 30 years ago but we used a jig instead of just a weight for the bottom and a worm wacky rigged or a jig for the top bait.  We called it a double rig or a double jig rig.  But we couldn't use it in tournaments as only one bait per line was acceptable.

The reason I asked is...Yesterday afternoon I was on u-tube clancing through the old BassMaster vids. It was a video of a tournament at Elephant Butte NM where some angler (Hoy, Hoyt, I disremember) and Seiji Kato (Original maker of Lucky Craft lures) where paired together. Kato gave his proto-type pointer after day two to Hoy(?) as well as set him up with what looked to be a short drop-shot and it was one of those things where it was suggested that Kato came up with it. Kato pretty much called it (translated) an "when all else fails rig", or something close to that, but like JigMan I thought the dropshot rig was used way back in the early sixties, much like the C-rig.

Just asking to see if anyone could confirm a start time frame on that rig, or shoulkd I say technique.

I bet it was invented shortly after fishing with lead shot came about.

Believe it or not i was fishing drop shot rig 24 years ago.....An old guy taught me it once.At that time he didn't know what it was called either. But i tell ya what...we both caught the heck out of everything that swam in that water.

However we were using #4 hooks and Washers(for weight)...
Magic lures don't exist.

My dad used whatever was laying around, but mostly old hex nuts or square nuts from the nut and bolt jar from the garage at home.
