Finally some decent temps
« on: August 24, 2010, 02:26:56 AM »
I decided to night fish because of the moon.  I waited until almost 7 before leaving home.  I arrived at the lake about 30 minutes before dark.  The first spot didn't produce.  The second spot gave me 5.  The third spot another 11 with 5 of them nice keepers.  I left that part of the lake and couldn't find any more ginormous rocks in the wind. So my fishing was ended by 11 as far as fish went.

The rocky places where the fish were biting had white caps and rollers coming in.  The first 5 came on 3/8 green pumpkin jig/green pumpkin beaver swimming.  The next 11 were on green pumpkin 4" tubes.  Did I say I threw some green pumpkin baits. ;D

Good to hear you got out. I am seeing a bit cooler weather here but I’m going to wait a couple of more weeks before taking my last week of vacation. I want to swim my jig ALL day! ;D
How’s that new neighbor working out?

Right now there is a monkey wrench in the deal.  Some iffy title stuff has it on hold.  Wit the owner being 80 and in assisted living 200 miles away no one is quite sure what is going on.  I sure hope it gets worked out.

Sounds like ya had a productive evening on the water. Were you fishing alone ?  We had some sweet cool temps today although a bit blustery. Looks like low to mid 80's the rest of the week and I got a ton o work for the next 6 days.   >:(

Are you of the opinion that the moon phase affects productivity or is it just more pleasant to be out ?

No Steve I was not alone.  I had cousin Beck with me.  He was snake bit.  He only caught one fish.  I left fish to go to a place where he might get one on a single spin but we ouldn't find anything except on big rock in the wind.

The moon phase has a lot more to do with me than it does the fish.  Stockton has lights only at the 3 marinas and on the face of the dam.  You talk about dark as a mow mow's moo moo when you don't have moonlight not to mention how many bugs come after lights when you have to have them on in the boat.

I have kept records for th elast 10 years and the moon phase does not have much to do with my numbers of fish.

Well I better hit the road because Magoo is taking me to Pommy in 30 minutes.

Well the good news is last night Red said she had no plans for today and wanted to go fishing.  The only problem is she doesn't like to get up real early so I have made coffee and packed lunch.  I'm going to let her sleep in until 4:30 then start making noise.   Maybe I'll have here out by 5:30 and be on the water by 7.  The sun won't be too high in the sky by then and it will still be cool.

I'm going to try to lose some of those rigged tubes before they can rust the hooks. :D

I managed to wake her earlier than I had really planned.  We got on the water before 7.  It was 57° when we launched and 84° when we loaded.  The wind didn't blow and it was 2 days after the cold front.

Fishing was a lot tougher than on Wednesday.  The fish liked the spinnerbait better than the swim jig.  We wound up catching 15 and losing a couple of others.  I hope this pond keeps producing for a while.  In 3 weeks they start a dam repair draw down and may put all the ramps out of commission for the fall.

Gee Jig Man, If they do that then maybe you will have to draw on your resourcefulness and your 4x4. It sounds like it would be a good time to mark some locations, especially if few people are trying to use the lake.

Steve I just hope one or two ramps are serviceable.  4 or 5 couples of us plan to spend 2-4 weeks down that way in mid Oct-??Nov.  That is the best fall sandie pond in the state, not to mention smallies up the river.  However, there will be no up the river unless we get rain.  At power pool we have to go over some real skinny water to get up either the Lindley or the Pomme de Terre (3-4 fow).   With a 5' draw down there will only be riffles 3-4" deep and no way to get around them and launch big old glitter sleds.

Yes I will prolly be marking wpts and taking lots of pics with the camera if we can get on the water.  I already have about 300 brush pile wpts but I haven't spend a lot of time on them as there are easier fish to catch.  Bill Davenport is a master at swimming 1/2 oz jigs over his own brush piles and catching big Pommy bass.  I don't have that technique down.  I have to resort to salt craws down and dirty and that is a pain.

Ha, ha that's funny there. I fished with Bill  once over at LOZ early in the year with jerkbaits. We were gonna go back later in the season and fish brushpiles but we never did.  Even though the salt craw may be a pain  it works. Ya ever figure out that swimming jig on brushpiles technique you can give us a class.

I'm still learning how to tie a jig, let alone fish one ! LOL !
