First Jig Bass ever
« on: May 03, 2006, 11:11:44 PM »
Well i made it out today for about 2hrs.
This is where a little 20 acre Park district lake Called The Hallows In Cary Il. The Lake is called Lake Attwood.

I figured I would throw a  medium crank to start. A lucky Craft CB100. Well on My 30th cast or so i got a follow from a nice 2lber. The next cast he chased it till He could see me so i stopped it and changed to a Jerk Jerk FastCrank retrieve. Well that worked he smashed it. He was about 15inchs and thick. Sorry no Pic as I was in a hurry to get him back in the water and closed my Phone before i saved the pic.

Well a few feet away from where i caught him I saw her sitting on a Fresh bed. I threw the crank bait at her but all she did was watch it swim by. So I RAN to my Jeep to get my spinning rod with a shackey worm and throw that at her. Well she looked at it every time I threw it on the bed. She even mouthed the end and moved it around. Well she wouldent commit after about 1/2 an hour so i did What Ike did on Guntersville I pinched off half the worm. She looked at it and picked it up without putting the hook in her mouth.

So I RAN again Back to the Jeep and got My tackle bag and other casting rod. I tied on a 5/16thoz PJ's Little jig in Grape/Black/Blue/Crystal with a 2inch Black Joe's Jig trailer to my Loomis MBR783 GL3 KVD Signature reel and 14lb Cajun Red Line. I started casting To the different parts of the bed I could reach from shore Till i found the sweet spot. Well I worked that girl for an hour I would put the jig in the sweet spot time after time and she would just either put her chin down on it or grab the trailer by the end than swim away. Well the next time she grabbed the trailer i wiggled the line with my free hand and she sucked it in and i stuck her.

Whoo Hoo First Jig Bass Thanx to PJ And Joe :ovation .

WTG!

I had my first hand with jigs this past weekend and I skunked out. I can't wait for my first jig hook up. ;D

Congrats!!!  The best way (at least for me) to learn to use a jig was fishing the finesse type jigs.  I got started with the 3/16 oz Bitsy Bugs and the 5/16 oz Eakins jigs.  I think you get bit more on them.  Once you figure out how to fish those it's the same with big jigs.

I still use the Eakins jigs more than I do any other.  I'm not T fishing and not hawg hunting, I'm trying to catch fish everytime I get on the water.

A jig is my favorite bait.  I have to watch myself, I'll try to pitch a jig when fish are chasing a spinnerbait!! :o  I just really enjoy it that much.

I have only caught one bass on pig and jig, why I do not fish it more I guess is because it is slow.

I like to cast and crank too much.
Going to have to work on casting and cranking less.
