Got out this morning!
« on: September 20, 2009, 04:19:57 PM »
Managed to get up early enough to be at the lake just before dawn this morning.  Water was glassy calm and looked to be perfect for topwater, however I was in my kayak and the only surface baits I had were frogs and a just-under-the-surface swimbait/wakebait.  Decided to go with the swimbait since all my line was fluoro (the frogs don't work that well with sinking line..).   Took my first cast and as I was lifting the bait from the water for the next cast,..a chunky little 2-lber came up and chomped onto the bait!!  Somehow it stayed attached as it showered me with some cool morning water next to the yak before I got it under control and I congratulated myself on my choice of baits!  Moved on a bit further and took a really long cast into a corner of the lake next to where a rip-rap dam begins.  As soon as the bait moves another good one loads on!  I cannot tell how good at first because there's so much line out and it gets boatside before I see it's worth measuring on the boga.  I hold it up and it turns out to be 6-lbs even!! :D
I put it on my teathered clip and head back to shore in order to get a pic,...but by the time I get back there and step out of the yak I turn to see an open clip and no fish behind the boat!!
:hammer :hammer  (Guess I coulda put this report in the D'oh section as well!!)

Anyway, I fished the rest of the morning with 5 more fish, all on a jig,... there was nothing else doing on the swimbait after the biggun as soon as the sun hit the water surface.  I also noticed that I could not get a bite while swimming the jig until there was enough breeze to break up the surface,..but then as soon as that happened, I got two in quick succession!  Anyway, great morning to be out but definitely the beginning of fall,... in the 40's to begin but then warming up nicely as the sun came up and I had to peel down to shorts & a tee shirt by the time I was getting off the water! 8)

Good deal J4!  Sound like a great day for sure and Congrats on the 6!

JackJ and I went to the Lake after we tinkered with the boat this afternoon. We went to run it and wound up fishing for awhile afterwards. We didn't catch any big ones but we did catch several "dinks". All of the ones I caught came on a 7.5" ribbon-tail worm, Bloodline.(I didn't take hardly anything with me since we were just running the boat for the most part) I did have one clip at a buzzbait, but ...... ;D

A 6 in a Yak must be a fun ride. Sounds like you need to get out early more often.
Nice going!
Saturday was a bit too windy and I had plenty of “things” to do so I got my work done. Got rained out of my Grandsons football game Saturday night but planned to fish Sunday. Good thing I didn’t go. The lake I was planning on fishing was hit by flash floods. Funny how that works; I live 30 minutes from the lake and we only got 2/10th of an inch of rain.
