I just heard/ a-rig
« on: January 16, 2012, 07:57:10 PM »
A friend of a friend just called and told me he had caught a 10.2 on Stockton recently amongst several other nice fish.  He has been throwing the A-rig.  Good or bad is not what I'm excited about. It's just exciting when a bait comes along that just gets so many documented catches of truly trophy sizes. I can't remember when a bait came along that had such an impact as this one has. It's really gotten a lot of attention.

I bought one. I am hoping to try it out this coming weekend at KY/Barkley if the weather doesn't change.

There is a local guy making them here locally and is selling them for 25 dollars i think it was. I'm not sure which company came out with them first but there are a few "brands" out there already and i know they are all selling pretty good. Paul Elias used it at Guntersville last year and scored big with it (23 plus lbs. per day! closer to near 30 a few days!) Swarming Hornet has one out also, as does BassPro...saw those just yesterday.

My buddy told me the ones with a weighted lead head at the front tend to tumble and tangle on a long cast.  He said ones with a plastic head at the front are less weight and don't seem to tangle on a long cast.

Are you talking my lake Stockton or maybe California.?  There have been a few of them from Lake Stockton MO though I have never boated larger than 8#.

If that is my lake I hope he has modified it as the 5 hook do dad is illegal in MO.

Yup, right there in your backyard. I'm sure he is fishing a 3 wire.  Ha, ha.

I'm  not familiar with the Cumberland yet but I thought that maybe with 3 of them  spooks I could show them synchronized swimmers a thing or two. LOL. Or maybe I should put on 3 of those Dancin'Eels.   ;D

I read earlier that BASS banned it from the Classic and all Elite tournaments.

I guess i meant FLW(I knew BASS banned it from those 2 circ's). As far as i know from what iread in a PAA blog about it, is that PAA and FLW officials?/members all seem to want to wait and see what happens over a peruid of time before they make a decision. The Fish and Game officials seem to want orgs. to consider the ethical veiw-point and orgs image more than anything right now. There may be new talk since that was written, not sure.

Well I used the Alabama Rig some yesterday at KY Lake. I would not want to throw it all day. I did get a bite on it but no hook up. I caught one bass and that was on a jerkbait. It was pretty cold out. I could barely feel my fingers when trying to get the mess of trebles out of the bass. Still had fun though.

Good you got out, carter as well as caught one and had a good time.. I asked a tackle shop owner close to my house yesterday about the sales of the a-rig harnesses. He said he has sold seeeveral of them so far but he hasn't heard of any tremendous catches on it locally  :lipsrsealed: maybe? ....but, that could change in a moments notice!  ;D

Eventhough i was off this weekend, i didn't get the chance to go  :'(. I did however play tacklebox and got my crappie stuff ready sat. p.m. as well as bass gear so i would be ready at the drop of a hat in the future.

Good job Carter. I luv me me some jerkbait fish.  I didn't get out all week for one reason or another. I am hoping to get out Tuesday as Monday isn''t looking good (12 yr anniversary  ;) ).  It has been rainy and warm here for the weekend. Monday and Tuesday we should see some sun. I spent the better part of today moving stuff around in the garage. Where did it all come from? I need to move back out to the country where I can have a shed at the very least.

There was an outdoor show in town while I was there so I went to it. A store owner there had a booth and was selling the A-Rig. Funny thing is, as I talked with him or maybe it was an employee, he spoke out against the rig. Makes you wonder why he would sell it then. Must be for the money.

That is a bit unusual. Ya wouldn't think a seller would talk naegative about a product he is selling.  Myself, I think it was probably a good move on the part of B.A.S.S. to ban them from the Elites series & the Classic. Otherwise I bet they just turn into another tool in your box to try.
