I thought I knew about cold fronts
« on: April 21, 2011, 03:21:42 PM »
When we got to the lake it was a really nice warm day. The next day I went out and fished of the morning.  I was able to scrounge up 9 bass with only 4 keepers.

The second day noone was on The water. We had winds over 40 miles an hour and it wasn't safe. A cold front passed and the temp dropped 240 degrees.

Wednesday I wrapped up and hit the water expecting near nothing.  The bass didn't know a front had passed and they were shallow, I caught 23 bass 8 of them were nice keepers to 4#.  I expected the to be deeper or tight to cover.  They were in 2-4 fow and hit every thing i threw except jigs.  The pink senko was tops.

Today was even colder with a 20+ east wind.  I only fished till 11 because of inclement weather.

I am now in the camper in a storm typing on Red's tablet which has satellite internet.  Ain't technology cool.

I wondered if maybe ya postponed your trip on account of this weather. It's been cold and windy here now since Tuesday. Rain is in the forecast for the next 2 days. I wanted some more crappie but I'll wait until next week.

Jig Man it’s good to hear your having such success. I never quite believed that these fronts affected the fish as much as it does us!
With that being said; Keep your head down. There is another big cold front heading in today and warnings are everywhere. Some of the people I work with still don’t have power back from the last storm.
You know things are bad when the Weather Channel has a page on their web site dedicated just to the Ohio Valley. The local officials are thinking of changing our town name to Flood Watch Kentucky! ::)

Our weather here is just as bad. But right now it doesn't matter for me. I got some kind of cold that put me down temporarily. But with the stuff predicted here for the next few days it doesn't matter anyway.

I've been cleaning the house since 10:30 am.....Cold,rain and windy....I think I'll stay home today.Wouldn't even be worth going out.

I hit the pond at my work yesterday on break and my hands were freezing up within 10-15 minutes..

Hopefully some of you have been able to get out and go as of recently. Getfished, if i remember correctly, is fishing a club tourny today,... can't wait to hear how they do.  Jig Man is out there somewhere also so hopefully they will have some input soon on that excursion, if it wasn't shortened by the weather they had recently or something. They cancelled our clubs "two lure" tournament, which was set for saturday(yesterday), because of the Wed. tornado we had.

Haven't done any fishing yet, but did spend 3.5 hours waxing the truck yesterday, then spent an hour mowing the yard.   Shortly after that it rained most of the night.  Still have lots of weed-eating to do.   :(

Water wings, After I got home today I had to mow with the finish mower from 5 to 8. Still got some to do.  ::)

Took the wife with me today for the club TX. Good thing to, she was putting fish in the boat at 6:45 Am. No messing around with her.  :D Trouble is , it was a 14" crappie. On another day perhaps. Once I thought she was going to donate my supertuned Curado and her Avid but she used all the available space and stayed dry.  Poor thing was really ill this morning but went along anyway and she got better as the day went on.  It was cool and cloudy . I'm thinking mid 40s maybe low 50s at 1 when we quit. She had one nice one on a spinnerbait about 7:30 and then we  had nada until 12:15.  I was about to panic, but the wind knots just kept me angry so I never could quite transcend into full blown panic. We were on a fairly small lake and there was another club there to so it was fishing a bit small.
I went to the migration path since they didn't seem to be on the bank. I found a couple out about 6-8 '. The overall outcome got me some big bass money , 22.5 " and second overall.

Oh yea, almost forgot to mention mine came on a 6" blue Tightlines UV Hog, and Rachels came on a spinnerbait using a Tightlines twin tail trailer.  ( I know, I know, shameless plug.) can't help it.

Keep “pluggin” Steve!
It is raining here again and it isn’t supposed to stop until Tuesday. Then it isn’t going to rain again until……….you guessed it, Saturday!
With the warming temps I wouldn’t mind putting in even with the rain, BUT all the roads around here are flooded and I have only 1 small lake I can even get to. ::)

Nice goin Steve. Some good lookin fish there.

Bassin was on and off for me with all the weather changes and storms.  We are at the upper end of the lake with Bigfoot and his wife.  Yesterday was the first decent temp day we have had.  The spec bite has been hlt and miss.  Red and I had 24 keepers one day.  Other than that it has been tough.

Yesterday Bigfoot and I caught over 60 of them and only managed 13 keepers.  I have decided to call it quits early pack up and go back home tomorrow.
