I was choosing worms
« on: August 09, 2010, 04:55:01 PM »
When I realized that it seems like I use a 5" Senko , or 4" shakey head worms from spring through winter. Once it gets postspawn I include 10-12" worms. For some reason I have just about completely quit using 6-7- & 8" worms.  What gives ? Have I missed the boat........ again ?

I admit it, I too have slacked WAAAY off using regular ol worms. I still use the 7.5" to 10" ribbon-tail worms some, but the rest, they just stay in the box it seems. And I use to catch the stew out of fish on a variety of 6" and 8* J-tail or flip-tail(a pointed paddle tail) worms.

I've just about gone away from the ribbon or the curl tail worm all together. The only thing I really use is a straight tail worm anywhere from 5 to 7 inches. If I'm fishing a true ribbon tail it's usually a 10 inch worm or a lizzard. It's very rare that you'll see me throwing a T-Rig.

I use the 7" power worms religiously when i fish.Anything over 7" my confidence factor starts to go down.I'm not used to throwing big baits.

My 4" Yum Dinger  has pulled in some monster smallmouth last year for me.Including my 4lb PB out of Detroit river.

I can’t remember the last time I even threw a worm. At least not this year so far. I have caught tons of fish with 6” worms over the years but after the senk-o style baits came out I quit throwing anything else. Now I don’t even throw them. :o

I rarely throw a worm unless its on a shaky head anymore.  I figure if they will hit a worm why wouldnt they hit a jig. ;D

I always have a shakey head tied on all the time.   Occasionally I will also have a 9" Zoom Mag II tied on another rod.

sometimes ill throw a zoom mag II or old monster one a 3/8 magnum shakey head it gives it a different look and seems to catch bigger fish than just a regular finesse worm but it also doesnt get as many bites as a normal shakey head set up

I just always use fake little shads, lizards and worms.

Every once in a while I might throw out a rattler or something.
