Lock 8, one mo time
« on: October 05, 2011, 05:41:49 PM »
We put in at Lock 8 this past weekend and motored up to our usually starting point....in a slough. Fished roughly til mid-morning. Caught one little bitty bass in that time frame. We moved to another slough, zero, and then the t-motor died down to where it would barely pull the boat, on high. Oh well ...deal with it! Moved out of that slough and decided to go on a scouting adventure, up river. Found the mouth of the place we had mentioned locating and began to work our way in. There were two trees across the channel we had to pull ourselves around but only made it past the first one  :whew ...there may have been more accross the creek on in, dunno. Pulled the boat back around the tree to head out and i suggested we fish our way out of this creek channel back to the river(there was a tad of current in there which helped push us along being w/o a t-motor) We picked up 6 fish on our way out of the narrow channel and then moved to a section of river bank headed back down river, drifting,... up stream  ;D. We caught or should i say i caught 4 more myself on the river(and after my bited died down..). He couldn't stand it any longer and suggested we go back to the starting point and check the afternoon bite. He caught 5 or 6 if remember correctly.

All fish caught were 13" and under bass and all were released.

Foggy early and cool(46*) warming to 70* through the day (bright sun all day) and had a rising b.p. and a little wind from noon on(cold front).

One of the last fish i caught wasn't as big as my worm. I felt it put it's lips on it right near the boat and immediately jerked, projecting the little feller unhooked into the boat, landing in the floor. I actually saw the wide-eyed little feller let go of the worm's tail as it came up and out of the water ...his timing was off just a little  ;D.

Ha ha, way to go Buzz.I always like going exploring up the creeks, especially this time of year. Sounds like a good outing. I'm not gonna get any fishing for probably the next 10 days. >:(
