Man! What a Day!
« on: November 05, 2009, 10:19:22 PM »
My buddy and I went bass fishing in the KY River. We put in around 9:00 this morning. First place we stopped was my smallmouth wall. I got a few bites but no hookups. (The current was still pretty strong even though the water level is down to normal pool) Next we went to a spot down river near he wanted to try. We started fishing in the mouth of a creek where a big ol' tree is in the water. We both caught a dink on first cast but then we began catching some nicer largemouths. After a few catches the bite would slow down so we would move to another area for a little while then come back and they would bite again. We did this for a couple of hours. Then we decided to head back to my smallmouth wall but fish it going upstream. I caught a pretty but little smallie. A few casts later I caught one about 2# then after a long dry spell we decided to call it a day. As my buddy got his gear stowed he pulled the trolling motor up and we just drifted downstream. I figured as long as we were close enough to the bank I would keep casting. On my last cast I caught a real nice smallmouth. It is my biggest to date. I figure it weighed over three pounds. I would guess our combined weight for the day of keeper bass was over 20 pounds. It was a great day of fishing for the both of us. One of those days that don't come along very often. And the good thing is, I knew that there had to be some better smallmouth there than what I caught back in the Spring and Summer.
I hope the pictures I try to add here show up.

Mine are "x's" so who cares what they think  >:D ;D  My girlfriend likes for me to do what makes me happy as long as I don't neglect her much which I don't; and she has her hobbies so no problems here.

Went to Guist Creek Lake and only had one bass but a decent one. It was a little over three pounds. Didn't get a picture cause dummy me forgot camera. I would have gone back to the river but the bottom of the ramp is full of mud and the ramp is steep. Plus I was by myself and did not feel like getting a bunch of mud in the boat. And it is a you-know-what launching there by myself.

That was yesterday. The fishing was pretty slow. I caught five or six with the largest just at 15" which is size limit on that lake. My buddy caught one or two more than I did but he only had one keeper as well. Still, it was a good day  :)

Thanks for the invite Carter. Do to my “breathing problems” I have only been out of the house twice now in the last two weeks. You cannot imagine the pain of sitting around in 75* weather and looking at the boat cover! I go to the Vet today so maybe I can get released. I have at least been working on organizing the baits. ;D

Scott, back in the 80's I had a hernia operation. I was not allowed to do anything, including fishing because I might catch a big one and reinjure myself. That lasted for eight whole weeks of Spring/Summer. So I share your pain. Good luck today. I hope you get a good report.
