Another afternoon off,....
Hit the lake around 1PM under bright bluebird skies and very light breezes.   The water felt like low 60's and the fish were noticably cool to the touch.   I began with a dropshot worm around the outside weedline in 10-15 FOW.  Had a little peck of a bite that felt like a very little fish,...set the hook and thought I was snagged until it started pulling drag.   I have my drag set so that usually a fish has to be around 3-lbs before it will pull very much line,....so I could tell this one had some size since it was just peeling line off effortlessly in one direction and then the other.   It came up and gave me a little jump and it looked like 5lbs or so,....anyway right after it surfaced it dove down and burried me up in some pretty thick milfoil!!    I played with it for a good 5 minutes or so,...trying to hand-line it up from the weeds but my 6lb test line was just not up to the task and eventually it went "bink"!!! and away swam my fish!!
Well, I decided to go with a jig on 20# test after that,...even though I felt it would cost me bites with that kind of weather.  Turned out that I was correct and I only got 4 more fish in about 5 hours,...but the last one was definitely worth the wait!!   Again a very light bite on the outside weedline and as soon as I set the hook I could feel the fish thumping around in a big clump of weeds.   This time I had the right line for the job however,..and after a short battle I was holding my 7-lb prize!!
