small largies or large smallies
« on: November 04, 2009, 08:21:55 PM »
Well my buddy and I decided to focus on largies this last weekend. Swing for the fence type of thing, hero or zero. We got off to an OK start in practice and located 4 areas. On TX morning the water had risen 2.5 ft. The largies had other ideas. They vanished in two of our spots. The water was too thick to drink but too thin to plow. The third spot still had a fish or two hanging around but nothing special. At our last stop we found em. All 26 of em. Trouble is nary a one would measure. In the last hour we made a quick little panic run to a main lake ledge that had produced a smallie in the past. We managed to pick up two real quick for a finish of 5.94. It was too little too late.

Well, get'em next time then. My buddy and I are going to the river tomorrow morning. We will be targeting smallmouth. I hope they are still there.

On the bright side you got into fish. Kudos for your perseverance and tenacity.  I reckon others would have tucked their tails between their legs and headed home.

Steve you have the same water conditions that we are seeing.  PdT is up 8' and dark as can be.  Yesterday there were almost no boats on the water and we saw the whole lake.  We did find some clear water 18 miles up river.
