I have been at Lake Stockton for the last 8 days. I had planned to fish for the big old girls coming in to the spawning banks at night as the moon filled. Well, I have had a few short mid day trips out and no night trips.
I have had a few 4# but no big fish and only 3 smb. All together I have mustered 98 bass in 6 short outings with the best being 34 with a 4 and 4.5 and the worst being 6 dinks (yesterday with blue bird sky after the cold fronts and north wind (S,M,T). The main bait was the senko with pink being the best color until M when the wouldn't look at it and only took jigs and tubes.
The wind has been blowing from 15-30 most of the time, even at night. I will fight it in daylight but not at night. Too many bad things can happen.
There have been storms coming through most days and I have fished between them. The water temp was 65° when I arrived and got down to 55° with the nights dropping to upper 30s to low 40s.
Now today we have sustained 30 mph winds with gusts to 50 so I decided to come home for the day and check things out. The neighbor has the lawn mowed and most of the garden produce picked. He did leave me a bit of asparagus to take back with me.
I'm headed back for 3 more days of bass fishing if the upcoming storms let me out on the water, then, we are moving camp to the State Park and meeting Mr and Mrs Bigfoot for 8 days of crappie fishing.
