Thank God for buddies
« on: August 19, 2010, 08:27:12 PM »
Gonna get back over to the remote little city lake again in the morning. My buddy lives about equal distance on the other side of the lake and is gonna meet me there. It's a good thing because he has a 4 wheel drive and the other day I was just barely able to drag my rig up the ramp. It's not concrete or paved, only flint rock and gravel. I was fairly puckered coming up out of there but can't wait to go back. We were there Sunday before last and caught 30 by 10:30 that morning.

I'm hoping with his 4wd  it'll all be good .   ;D

Well, it worked out OK again with the 2wd. My truck pulled my rig out again, barely but it did get it done. Ron put on a clinic today from the back of the boat. His buzzbait was a whole lot more productive. I tried a Picasso, 3 other brands of buzzbaits, and an Ichiban Balsa Pro but none would attract the attention his buzzbait attracted. I managed to string together 12. One on the Balsa Pro, one on a War Eagle spinnerbait, 4 on a T-rigged Senko, and 6 on a buzzbait.

Ron never got very far away from his buzzbait and managed to put 25 in the boat all on the buzzbait including this one nice smalljaw.

We loaded out at 11:00 and just  missed an approaching storm.

Glad you all had a good morning on the water. It is the same with me and my fishing buddy. One time he will do great and then the next time I will.  :)

Ha, ha ! I did threaten to cut his line a time or two. He offered me a buzzbait like the one he was using but I was being stubborn and as a result didn't catch as many fish.

It really was interesting though to see that other baits would catch fish here and there but the particular buzzbait was very much more consistent and productive above and beyond the other offerings i tried including other topwaters.

Ron said next time he can purchase more that he was gonna buy several,  LOL !, typical fisherman.

That raises a real question; How many times have we had a bait work in one particular situation and never produce like that again?
A few years back a friend and I were jerking red shad Tiki Stiks and were catching fish on every cast. My buddy ended up catching his personal best, and the best for the day, at 6.7 lbs.
I have tried using that method several times since then and have never done any good with it.
I went fishing with guy I worked with and his wife, she caught the fire out of them on some 6” tomato (tomatoe for you guys from Indiana) worm. He and I never had a bite using the same bait! After that trip I bought a couple of bags of them but finally gave them away. I never caught a fish on them. ::)
