Took a Dog for a Walk
« on: May 12, 2011, 04:39:32 PM »
I was finally able to get out for a few hours today. What a day. I saw a few buck bass guarding beds today at a small reservoir. I pitched a jig to a couple of them, but no takers. I went over to some flooded brush and was able to hook into a 1.5 lber.

Moved down to the northeastern part of the res and the water was glass. I tied on a Spook Jr. and imediately buttoned up on another 1.5 lber. Went back to the western part of the res and buttoned up on 3 more 1.5 lbers and a crappie.

All in all 4 bass and a crappie on a spook jr and 1 on a jig. Not a big bag, but man, did I ave a lot of fun. My first topwater fishing of the season!

That sounds like you had a good time.  I haven't caught fish on a spook in quite some time.  We don't have much timber in our lakes any more.

Sounds like a good day !  :2thumbs

I'll get out Sunday. I got a little tourney and I am totally unprepared. I'm not getting my expectations too high.

Let me tell you, I had a great time, thanks to all for asking and your kind posts. I went out totally unassuming and it just turned into a great day! Again, not a big bag, but I love topwater fishing and for the first time in months, I got to go out and enjoy fishing for total relaxation. For three hours, I didn't have a care in the world. LOL

That's great! I lost my favorite Spook to an errant cast that busted up my lure. :(

I think i still have every spook i have ever bought! But, .... some of them show lots of wear  ;D !

baby bass -puppy, if i had to choose 1, that would be my all-time fav. spook. Although, some of the big ones i have i like just as much!

Here's one that keeps making out of the box and into a fish's mouth:  ;)

That's an old Excalibur Spit'n Image. I got it in the late 90's when they first came out. Heddon (Lurenet.com) is producing it now.

When I exhaust all my topwater options, I grab the 'ol fish catcher.  :)

I added that on just prior to ice out. The old teaser tail had maybe 5 strands left on it from last season...LOL

The rain let up for a couple of hours so after getting the bad news I decided to take the dog for a walk. 6 LMB all around 1.5 lbs. It was good enough for mental health anyways. Man they love that spook jr.

I do,I do.....Not sure why I didn't finish that sentence. Topwater bites are the best. They will get your blood flowing when you do get one.Sounds like you had fun.
