Took old cousin Beck this am
« on: April 02, 2010, 04:09:53 PM »
He is a recent UPS retiree and has been wanting some eating fish so I took him before the storms this morning to Bull Shoals.  We got there 30 min before first light and had to get in line to launch.  We were about #20.

When we motored about 4 miles up the creek we had only passed one boat.  I pulled up and started fishing because the would be rub rail to rub rail on up stream.

We had several good bites and missed and lost a bunch of finiky fish.  We did manage 20 on the old channel bank/swing on the role over.  We had just figured them out when boats started coming back down the creek.  Well the boat magnet thing worked again.  4 boat pulled right in above and below us two of them dropping anchors.  We were done (I was well done. >:().

I left the creek and moved out the the main river and started looking for similar channel swings.  I found one that gave up 16 nice fish 4 of which went over 4# each.  We only stayed on the water until 11 because my weather radio said storms with 60-70 mph winds were coming and I don't do those in a boat.

Beck kept 50# of sandies to have a fish fry.  I don't keep pre spawners but did not have the heart to tell him no.

Nice job Jig Man. I'm trying to get a few crappies put into the freezer for a fish fry myself. What few "sandies" we have around here come nowhere close to the size and quantity as what you catch!

If you go and if you have some, try a slider 3" bass grub.  I have almost quit using my bucktail jigs because the slider is out producing them.  I have been doing well on the pearl, baby bass, catalpa worm, cotton candy and muscadine colors.
