Where to look?
« on: May 07, 2006, 06:35:28 PM »
I catch a few bass here and there but I think it's all luck. I fish from the shore around the lake, no boat yet. I live in South FL, the lake is small and pretty shallow. You can fish from one side and cast and almost hit the other bank and in some areas actually reach someones backyard. There is one area that is open. I will have to take pics so you can see what I am talking about. Any ideas on where to focus? The water is clear, what should I use for bait? We catch bass on 6" worms texas rigged or simply on a jig head. thanks everyone

Smoke or pearl colored grubs and other soft plastics. Try them weightless and various sizes. Small cranks and spinners in same color scheme.

4" grubs would be my choice.  Some more of my favorites are little craws, chompers or like you said worms.

thank you. I will try some different size grubs. So far the 6" texas worm or the worm on a jog head works but like I said I think it's all luck.

Sal quit selling yourself short to a certain extent it is luck but it is also your fishing skills.
Type of lure used, presentation of lures, etc, etc.

You are caughting fish and it can not be all luck.
Luck can run out fishing skills stay with you all your life.

Try lipless crankbaits too, like the Rattletrap, chrome body, blue back. Those cichlids you mentioned are an exotic species that should not be here. Florida fish and wildlife put Peacock bass in the waters to control them and Tilapia. :)

Start asking other guys you know that fish. I'll bet at least one of them knows someone that can show you about Peacock bass. ;)

There is probably a bass club in your area. Talk to those guys. You're not asking them for their "spots" just general information.

I was talking with a fishing friend of mine yesterday about a river chute that we both fish.  I asked him if he was able to get any kind of pettern on fish there.  I have been fishing in this place for a few years now and I can never get on a pattern with the fish.  I think some places are just like that, there's not enough consistent features on the body of water for the fish to be doing the same things.

I still seem to catch fish when I go to this place, but it would be nice to feel like you've got a clue what the fish are doing. ;D

Man,that grass looks awesome!! I would throw a frog or a buzzbait near or through the grass! Especially early in the morning or late in the evening! I use Zoom Super Flukes in the Smoke Shad color and I nail them left in right! I rig them texas rig without a weight!
