Who fished
« on: March 15, 2010, 10:38:52 AM »
this weekend?

I would have but it rained and was cold all weekend.  The "boss" is on me to go too.  Wish it would clear up and the weather would straighten out.

I took Bear because it was the only time he could go.  We hit Table Rock way up the James in the crepusculor period, bout an hour before dawn made its first little crack.

It was windy, cold and rainy.  The water temps had dropped from 54° on Wed to 48° on Sunday.  We went a few more miles up the river and then a few miles back down.  We couldn't find any groups of fish that would hit.  Even the minners guys were having trouble.

All of my sandie holes from last week were bare.  We wound up catching 4 whites, 3 spots, 2 lmb and 2 white crappie.  The only thing fish would hit was a Charlie Brewer slider in junebug with a chartreuse tail and believe me we tried a bunch of stuff in a bunch of colors.

I don't remember the last time I was as cold got yesterday and I had on my January layers too.

Not me ! With the snow finally melted I spent considerable time cleaning  up winterkill  outdoors.  I did get me 3 new Trojan batteries so I'm set for my next chance. I've had snow covering since December and it is sure nice to see it gone.

Bass don't eat what they don't see.

I'll bet it is! Winter kill around here wasn't pretty either. Got most of it burnt and getting ready for the bush whacking later on ....sometime, like july or august,  ::2  Man!,  :whew It's time to fish!!

Those(batteries) are good ones from what I hear!

Well of course it is supposed to warm up to the 60’s through the week, but rain and temps falling by the weekend. You know I’m in trouble when I “enjoyed” hanging a new light fixture for the wife! ::)

GMAN Mop Jig + Rage Tail Lobster

Saturday was a big day fishing GMAN's 3/4 oz
custom jig with Big O's Rage Tail Lobster as a
trailer. The presentation is about the size of a
softball and makes a statement: Little guys stay away!

I'm pretty sure my first fish that day will be my best
largemouth this year. The second fish, the little one,
looked to be 5-6 lbs.

This is from two weekends ago, my best trip to the river
this year:

Mar 07th 2010

Just got back. Caught 26 largemouth and one
smallmouth.  Best five ~27 lbs, most 3-4 lbs,
four around 5 lbs, and our big fish 6 1/2.

All bass were caught on lipless cranks (18),
Wiggle Wort (4) or 6 1/2" Kut Tail (5) fished
on a shakey head. Specific colors were not
important.

The waterflow was good, 36,000 CFS; visibility
3-4 feet and stained. Water temperature is still
under 50 degrees, but that will change this week.

All fish were caught off gravel banks in 4-8'
of water, but that pattern will probably change
when the water reaches the grass.
