Wife's First Striped Bass
« on: May 01, 2006, 09:25:12 AM »
Took the wife out to the Delaware River Yesterday to do some Striper fishing, took a little while to find the bait, but once we saw some guys catching them we snuck over and caught about a dozen in 10 minutes.
Then we headed down river to a spot where I did good last year (25 lber) and nothing, so I moved to one other spot I had, we through out our live herring on a Carolina rig set up and sort of freelined them. About a 1/2 hour and line starts peeling of my reel, I let him run for  a few seconds, closed the bail and it was on, I fought it for a few seconds then turned it over to the wife, After a while she wanted to give it back I said no way it's yours, this thing fought like mad, plus there isa  very strong current. I netted it and got it in the boat, Ended up weighing 13.5 lbs. Not one of the monsters in there but a good fish. Had oner other run but missed on the set, pulled the fish out of it's mouth.
Here's her first striper

Not really I let her so I  didn't feel bad, then she felt bad because I let her reel in my fish and that was the only one...ahhh  Women.

I wish we had stripers here that big close without driving 4 hrs.  I would love to hook into one of those like that.

E, we need to go up to the river and catch a few of those.   Not sure when the right time of year is though around here although I have caught smaller ones throughout the year.

There are Stripers nearby but I've never hooked into one.  Probably fall overboard if I ever did :o!

Very nice. I remember my first stripped bass back in NJ.
