Boat anchors
« on: February 20, 2006, 06:10:13 PM »
Change of pace.  I'm planning on adding another anchor to use, to give me two.  I've lost two so far so I have the current one (15# mushroom) connected pretty good to the anchor rope.

Never lost one.  My anchor usually stays in the garage.

Maybe that's where I should have kept my previous ones, lol.   My tin rig needs the anchor(s) when the wind blows and I want to stay in one spot.

I was at a small local lake in my canoe and had the anchor out due to wind so we could properly fish a spot. I suddenly realized after who knows how long that we were drifting. I pulled on the anchor rope and it was weightless. Lesson learned: make sure your rope is in good condition. :shoothead

The 2 anchors I lost were due to the "store-bought" anchor rope with quick-clip (non-locking type carabiner) already attached to it.  The best I can figure is that the clip got caught against something and opened the gate of the clip.  I lost both anchors while fishing out of Ky Lake near Moors Resort.  Now, my new anchor has the rope tied on the top ring, then I took some fishing line and seized it around the knot, then placed  some shrink tubing (about 4" long) over the knot, and shrunk it around it all with a blow dryer.  Haven't had any problems since.  Once I get the boat un-winterized I'll take of pic of what I did.  It's not pretty, but it works.   :)

Warning: do not buy the anchor rope that has the large clip already fixed to it.

I've never used one.  Always on the move.
