Just some advice...
« on: January 23, 2006, 09:18:49 AM »
If you have a boat always keep a spare bearing kit with you at all times!!

...Or you may get stranded at a time when no stores are open or you may be in the middle of nowhere and you loose a bearing. I've seen it happen many times and finally happened to me yesterday.

For roughly $15 its a good thing to have on hand when you need them.

That is good advice Jack, and here's another. Check to make sure that you have the right bearing in the box. Last year, while changing my bearings, I made three trips to the store; one inner bearing did not have the seal with it and I later found that one outer bearing was the wrong one! Right numbers on the box but wrong bearing inside.
Talk about being P.O.!

Complete set up a good idea...hub and all...pre-greased in a carry case, about $35 - 40

Sometimes enough heat will screw up hub making bearing change useless....

I do a lot of long distance hauling...Baja Sur a tough place to get anything!

I saw those kits on Bass pro.   Not sure if any would fit my boat though.
If they will I am going to get one.

Just had mine professionally rebuilt .. cost about $225 ... it's a lot better deal to have one on hand ... even if it's the entire hub for $50 ... not a bad idea to repack bearing annually, even if you only tow a half dozen times a year ...  8)
