Protection for equipment
« on: June 27, 2006, 12:30:00 AM »
I just noticed that I have installed two locks on coupler for trailer, and a podlock with cable to secure spare tire, and one on trailer wheel so trailer and boat can not be moved by hand or by automobile.

I live in a nice neighborhood but am I over protective of the Green Monster.

Does everyone have locks on boats or do you store boat in garage that is locked.

Am I the only one that is doing this.

I used to keep a wood splitter chained and locked in a shed.  Someone wanted it so he cut the gate lock, cut the chain lock and stole the splitter and the chain.  At least he didn't leave the gate open so the cows got out.

I leave my Champion with both depth finders, 18 rods and reels, and a host of various baits sitting in campgrounds all over the place from March to December.  The only protection it has is a canvas boat cover.  I just keep a good insurance policy.  My belief is that if a thief wants it he will get it.

I do keep a little something in the camper in case someone wants to visit in the night (40 cal. semiauto.).

My boat is in the locked garage when it's not on the water ... if I leave for any length of time I put the hitch lock on it ... and when I tow the trailer to go fishing I have the hitch lock in place ... an aquaintance on another board had his trailer stolen when he left it at the ramp unlocked ... can you imagine the inconvenience and turmoil that would cause ... I spent about $400 on my trailer this year between new lights, wheels and tires, hub and bearings ... got enough trouble in my life w/o making it easy for somebody to give me more ...

Jig Man I have Mr. 44 Mag. at my house for unwanted guests.

His bark is loud and it is hard hitting.

Hit them anywhere and they go down. If special loads with hollow points where you hit them is missing..

I have one of the Master Lock hitch locks that looks like a trailer hitch ball.

I keep a lock on the trailer when I tow my boat to any boat ramp I have boxes with locks on them and if not near boat I keep them locked and all electronics and other important things lures etc out of sight in box or at home if not going fishing going for repairs or Fuel. Locks can get into but makes it harder and if someone sees them cut the lock or force open a compartment then they know it ain't right hopefully they would call 911 but if I catch them watch out the corner will be showing up
