I am just seating here think about the Green Monster and I have a question for you guys to answer.

Do I need to carry a spare prop for trolling motor and a spare shear  pin and nut.
Remember this is my only sources of powering the Monster.

Lets here some opinons do you carry spare parts, and tools in your boat.
And is it helped you in emgency situations, or is the idea worth less.

I don't carry spare props, pins, hubs, etc.  I used to but would rather spend on more fun things.  However, if a tmotor were my only power source, I would be sure to carry lots of things to ensure my getting back to the vehicle without having to paddle.

Most of the lakes I go to are electric only so like you my main propulsion is my two electric motors. I keep a small toolbox with various trialer, boat, and motor tools. I also like to have on hand: spare drain plug, light bulbs, fuses, wire strippers and nuts, shear pins, prop nuts, etc....you get the idea. I've been stranded once and didn't like it very much.

Almost forgot: A role of each duck [or duct], and electrical tapes!! They can fix just about anything  :P

I carry a spare pin and prop.  Like said above this is your only motor.  You may never need it but that 1 time you do it will be worth the 20-30 bucks.

Yes sir I carry a spare prop and pin with me at all times. We make some long runs with these trolling motors. I would hate to break one way off and not have a spare to get us back in time.

btw,  depending on motor make sure you have a way to get the prop off.  My prop is held on by a stainless lock nut, not the hand turn nut.

Gman that is how mine is held on a 1/2 in nut with plastic insert and a washer, then prop comes off and exposes the shear pin in shaft.

It would be very easy to repair broken prop or shear pin on the water.

Thanks guys for answers it is what I thougt also have something to repair is better then  nothing.

I do not like to row a boat no matter what size it is or how far it is.

Thanks for second opinons.
This forum is great for getting opinons and the straight facts other have told me oh no you will never break a prop or shear pin, and I have never but there is always a first time.

I carry a spare trolling motor prop and pin.  I would hate to be caught out there without one and ruin a trip.
Hopefully soon I can get a spare big motor prop.  They are just so expensive.

I would carry the spare parts also I dropped my pin to the trolling motor and my fishing was over cause I couldn't use the  trolling motor so most definately would I carry spare parts I didn't lose the nut or the prop but did lose the pin that turns the prop. From then on I carry spare parts to mine.
