Well Yesterday was a toughie.
It was our second club tourney, of course there was a big cold front that came through over the weekend, just like every tourney weekend

Started at 7:00 a.m. things were looking really ugly for a long time, and I was getting pretty frustrated, I talked to my wife about 1:30 as she called to see how I was doing and she could tell I was pretty upset that I didn't have anything. She said why don't you just fish the way and what you normally fish, (off shore stuff) which normally isn't good this time of year as the good fish are usually moving up shallow.
I thought to myself why not can't get any worse, grabbed the 3/4 oz black Gman's Jig and threw on one of my 3" black chunks and said I'm just going for it for the next hour and half.
Hit the first hump and nothing, was on the way to another when I saw a marked hump on the GPS to the left and said well I'll hit that one real fast, pulled over to it threw the buoy out, made a cast, nothing, made another cast and felt a big rock, popped it over the rock and Thunk, set the hook and it didn't really budge, thought oh man either big catfish or walleye as it was wallowing in, it came up and my jaw dropped, Giant smallmouth!!! It dove under the boat and I ripped it back up and netted it

Said to myself that is a giant, biggest Smallie I ever caught!!!
Now on a side note, our club has a separate lunker pool besides regular tournament lunker, were they set a weight each tournament and if no one beats it, the cash rolled over to the next, well the pot was still continuing from last year and was up to $1,845.00!!
The weight to beat was 5.0 so you needed a 5.1 to win it.
I called my buddy up who I have a deal with that if one of us won it we would give the other $300.
He came over and I showed him and he said here put it on the scale, his scale flickered between 5.6 and 5.8 and he said it weighs 3 oz. on the light side so I'm looking at either a 5.9-5.11.
Well that's big enough to win the lunker pot!!!! so were both pretty excited, although I did talk to another guy early who said he had a fish to win lunker pool unless some one beats him, but I didn't know how big his was.
I tried the rest of the humps and nothing, coming in to weigh in, there were actually a few really big fish caught, my buddy had a 5.8 smallie, another guy had a 5.10 Largemouth that was 20", My smallie was officially 5.10 but I beat him as it was 21" long, then the other guy who I spoke to earlier in the day beat me with a 6.2 largie!!!

Oh well I didn't get the lunker Pot but still am happy with my new personal best smallie and a 5th place finish with the 1 fish as it was really tough with a lot of zero's,
So with out further ado here she is 5lbs 10 oz.!!
