I did the same thing with my kid today. Took him fishing. He reeled in a nice crappie and a smallmouth bass.
Magic lures don't exist.

That is awesome.  Pretty soon he'll be calling your gear his own. My daughter is about the same age and claimed my Curado 101D. She said that I could "use" it for now because she prefers to drop shot with a spinning setup. ;D
