Wow mate what a quick response to me joining. Gives the forum a very postive appeal to me straight up.
I have always thought i should join an american forum of some kind as here in australia there isn't the terms used like over there and i am very interested in learning as nobody could ever know too much about fishing.

Cheers, Joe.

Not sure if this is where i'm supposed to put this but seeing as it is pretty much under and introduction i will put it in here instead of making a new thread.

My name is Joe Press, i am from australia and i am 15 years old.
I was brought up with fishing and have been fishing all my short life. Since i was a baby my dad and pop used to take me fishing. I caught my first fish on a lure at the age of 5 and haven't put lures away since. I am a native fisherman and i absolutely hate trout fishing. The main species i target is Murray cod, which there are a lot of in the area i live in but not very many big ones, quantity over quality in other words. But i can't get to the river everyday so i will spend a lot of afternoons drowning some worms after an eel-tailed catfish, another native fish, while flicking lures around for redfin (british perch, english perch not sure what they are called over there or if you even have them).

I am also just getting into making my own hard-bodied lures to chase our native fish with.

A brief introduction i know but it will get the job done i think.

But wait, I'm not the kind of person to just leave a story without pictures so here are a few.

Murray Cod on one of my home made lures.

My personal best cod to date

Cheers, Joe

Those are some nice looking cod Pressy. Why don't you like trout fishing? Trout are fun to catch, especially on light line and ultralight gear. Plus they taste good. I fish primarily for black bass which are actually a green color. And I go up to Lake Erie which is one of our "Great Lakes" and fish for walleye once a year. They are very good eating too. Oh, that is great catching fish on a lure you made yourself isn't it? Thanks for sharing.

Thanks mate for your positive feedback. Trout and i just don't mix. I am far from able to catch them with only ever catching one wild fish which was a small rainbow. My brother often outfishes me big time on the trout him getting 3 or more landed before i even have one look at my lure.
I think those cod are good fun on the light gear, now there is a challenge, when i'm game i use a 1-3 kg 7' threadline setup with 2500 size reel and struggle to keep them from burying me with light line. Biggest landed on the ultra light gear is 63cm, which is only just a legal fish and there is a couple of kilo of fish pulling against you there.
I am loving catching fish on my lures, not many better feelings..

Also sorry for the use of kilograms, i think 1-3kg translates to 2.2 - 6.6 pounds for you guys with your imperial system.. haha
Plus 63cm is something like 24.8 inches.. Gotta give me credit for trying to translate these numbers for you ???

Cheers, Joe.

Thank you for converting that for me. I was never any good at metrics.  ::) ;D

Most of the trout we have around where I live are rainbows and it is what they call a put and take fishery.Meaning that our Department of Fish and Wildlife stock them in various waters and then we catch them and keep them. Most of them are less than 12" long. But they are good to eat. Most of the ones I caught using corn kernels or garlic flavored cheese under a skinny float.
