Aliceville Tournament after thoughts...........
« on: March 09, 2008, 02:08:00 PM »
1) Ice scrapers would have been a hot commodity at the boat landing on the morning of the tournament!

2) Despite the cold front, the tournament was won in shallow water!

3) Even in adverse weather, someone always manages to catch fish!

4) In cold weather tournaments, that one fish that got away is always so crucial in the final outcome.

5) It seems that most teams caught fish in areas that they did not pre-fish.  So pre-fishing for this tournament was not very useful.

6) Aliceville Lake's value went up $750.00 after our bass tournament.  Ask Shannon.

7) Please add your own after thoughts......
Robert

Thats one reason I never pre-fish.  They are always somewhere else on tournament day, lol.

Dr. Eaton, welcome to the club and you are right. Unfortunately I made a very costly mistake. After my motor finally started, in all the excitement, I forgot to strap my rods down and we hit a wave headed up river and bounced my rods out. And just so everyone will know, rod and reels DON'T float.

You are correct in that we won the tournament in shallow water. However, in our case, prefishing did help. We caught all of our fish where we prefished. We also lost 2 very nice fish. One broke off and one pulled out. Fortunately it did not cost us the tournament.

Were you able to retrieve all/any of the rods and reels?

I guess I should have added that you do not need to use your big motor to win tournaments!  Congrats Shannon and Billy on your win!

No Jackie unfortunately I was not able to get them. :( It was only 2, however it was a chronarch on a St. Croix rod. A $600 combo and a cranking rod with a 5500c-3 $175 combo. Very expensive mistake and no one to blame but myself. And I might add that my loving and caring wife was not happy either cause she knows that I am going to want them replaced and she is right. ;D

Man, something about that place likes eating rods and reels.  Ian lost one there also at one of our tournaments.

I fished at Pickensville for two weeks off and on and didn't get on the fish I caught until Friday. Unfortunately our big one did get away, it was a monster with about 30 minutes left until weigh in......Oh well.

Good job Shannon and Billy!

Thanks Brad.  I lost the rods close to the mouth of Davis Landing. I have thought several times about trying to go find them. It would be a long shot at best. I sure wish I would have strapped them down.
