Bob - side imaging

So Bob...

What do you think of the side imaging unit since you have used it for a while.

Was it worth the cost and has it helped you find and define some of the structure a little better?

For lakes like Lake Tuscaloosa and Holt it is invaluable.  I have found more stuff in the 6 months of using it than the previous 5 years.  Now, for the last two tournaments, it is useless.  We have been fishing 2-6 feet of weedy, clear water - it gives pretty pictures of weeds, but you don't need a graph to tell you they are there.  The only place it doesn't seem to perform up to advertisements is seeing actual fish (although it is pretty good at seeing bait balls).

Are you having any problem telling how far away an object is when you see it?

Can you post some pics of the actual sonar picture?

that thing is amazing jack! it does take a little while before you are able to decipher what you are seeing and the distance you are from it. really cool stuff

No and No on the questions asked.

No - no problem - just move into curser mode and move the object and the GSP says 132 ft back and left.

No - I'm not that savvy on the electronics stuff - I haven't tried and really don't know where to start.  It can be done, but not by me at this time.

I think you just load "Screen Snap Shot" mode, and then hit the "Mark" button each time you want to take a picture.   You do have to have a memory card installed though that I do not beleive comes with them, but can be bought really cheap at Walmart.   (or you digital camera may already have one if it uses a SD card.)
