Dead Paddlefish
« on: June 28, 2010, 08:39:32 AM »
I've pretty much gone my whole life without seeing a paddlefish, and now the last two times at Oliver I had seen two dead.   I wonder if there is some sort of problem?

I also realize when they are really big and on their backs where you cant see the paddle, they look an awful lot like a shark.

Paddlefish must be returned immediately if one is caught by accident in Alabama.

oh,  hmm.  Have they been hit by boats?  Alot of times around here this time of year when they spawn it will happen on occasion.

Could have been, but I never saw a scratch on either one.

They may have gotten ahold of some bad plankton  :o

One of the Alabama website mentioned something about having a stocking program in the future, but I think it's still in the study stage.

You didn't see any slits in the belly of these 2 fish did you? When do you harvest the caviar from them I wonder?
