I will vouch for such varmints as that, Shannon. They use to be all over Lock 5 roughly that size at times. Huge dang snakes! In fact I've seen a bunch of them down there with heads as big as you hand(fingers/thumb tucked in shaping it like a would be snake head), and body size as big as your thigh....literally. There would be a wad of snake as big as a truck tire laying there near-about as tall as a 5-gallon bucket  :o .... Ask my wife sometime, She has seen them too.

weird sight to see it is.

Well considering the world record timber rattlesnake was measured at 74 1/2 inches long, then this snake more than doubles the record. So I still gotta call B* on this.

well, he did say "the size is unreal"  ;D

I'm not saying one way or the other until it's spiecies and specs are confirmed or shat down because I've seen (water)snakes myself way bigger than any of the paper work says they should be.(not often but I've seen them)

Typical, non-typical.

A buddy of mine sent this to me in a text message and I was having a hard time believing it myself.. I'm still skeptical about a rattlesnake getting as big as a freaking  Python especially around here . .

Even the diamond back species have never been measured at any length close to this. If this is real, so is BIGFOOT!!  :o  ;D

Ok, we have a partial ....There is a guy where I work that said one of his buddies works with the guy that killed this snake. A Land Management Company worker killed it on duty clearing land which took place in Elmore county. The true measurement is not known at this time(I'll keep checking) but the way it was told the snake "might" be a just over 7'. And it was indeed a Timber Rattler. But who do you believe, right?l........

I guess the ole boy had one too many of those cans beside him and was seeing double so he multiplied by 2 on the tape measure :)

 ;D

from the linky above:
Quote
The snake is claimed to be 14 feet and nine inches long and weigh 100 pounds.  If you spend a few minutes reading the text below, I believe you'll be quickly convinced this is a completely bogus claim.  No rattlesnake has ever and no rattlesnake will ever reach that length or weight.  But, there's another reason we can confidently claim the story is a hoax.  The snake is an eastern diamondback rattlesnake[/u], that's clear from the distinctive patterning (black diamonds surrounded by gold), and ....

I'm going to see, at some point, if I can identify the snakes I've claimed to have seen wadded up on the creek banks at lock 5. They were indeed enormous and my first guess would be large "pregenant" waters snakes or some sort of Gopher snake. Those two I'm pretty sure can get rather large in size and in length.

If I’m not mistaken I have seen this picture before. Our old plant manager had a photo of a huge rattler that was supposedly killed in Eastern Kentucky. Not sure. ???

I was thinking the same thing Scott. This picture looks very familiar. Even though it is a big snake why would someone want to try and pass it off as twice the size it may have been? There was the story of the monster hog. It turned out to be untrue; as for the size claimed anyway. If I remember correctly, the eastern diamondback is the largest of the rattlers.
While fishing a tournament on Barkley one time my boater and I saw a huge snake lying on a slanted log and facing the water. We did not go anywhere near it. Wish I had a camera with me though so I could have gotten a picture of it.
