Please prepare for the heat club members. Remember to hydrate well ahead of time and bring plenty with you, you don't want to be out there saturday and run out of juice...in more ways than one.

Remember to bring sunscreen, eventhough it may be cloudy, and re-apply every two hours. A large brim hat of some sort may play beneficial as well as a light breathable long sleeve shirt, or two.

If you plan on bringing large amounts of ice, you might want to check around ahead of time with the store you plan on stopping at prior to sat. take-off, there seems to be a shortage of the 20lb size bag on this end of town.(south) Hopefully that'll be resolved by this w/e due to school starting back.

See you at Lock 8!

FYI,
There will be at least one other tournament putting in down there Saturday.  It's Bibb County, but i think they usually only have 10 boats or so also.  not sure.  will be a line at the ramp though.  Should we plan on meeting out by the buouy after we put in?  Weigh in may be crazy too.  may entertain the idea of taking out early (or late).  preferably early since it is going to be 100 degrees!

Thanks for the heads up! I'm sure we'll deal with it the best we can. We'll cover the details between the two(or more, clubs) when we get there.

They are obviously fishing without a permit, since we have one and the Corps only issues one per ramp per day.

Concerning the heat - drinks containing a large amount of sugar and any caffeene are not much help - they actually increase the rate of water loss, rather than help with hydration.

You know I'll be there with my stupid hat on (look stupid wearing it and your stupid from the sun if you not).

The tournament host can shorten the tournament, up to one hour, for either conflict with another tournament or heat.

Just in from NOAA Birmingham discussion:

A WEAK FRONT...OR AT LEAST WIND SHIFT WILL USHER IN A SLIGHTLY DRIER
AIRMASS FOR THE WEEKEND. SATURDAY AND SUNDAY WILL STILL BE HOT AND
DRY BUT TEMPERATURES WILL DROP OFF 2 TO 3 DEGREES EACH DAY...AND
PERHAPS MORE NOTEWORTHY...THE DRIER AIRMASS WILL KEEP HEAT INDICES
BELOW 105...AT LEAST BY SUNDAY.

Has anyone tried the Frogg Toggs Chilly Pad?

The frogg toggs? Chilly Pad? keeps you cool during a workout, hard ride, tough climb, or any other strenuous activity. The Chilly Pad? provides an innovative way to cool down while enduring outdoor heat and/or high levels of physical activity. Perfect for anyone engaged in sports or work, the Chilly Pad? is made from a new hyper-evaporative material that retains water while remaining dry to the touch. When wet, the towel becomes considerably cooler than the outside air, thereby providing cooling relief to the user. When it stops cooling (between 1-4 hours depending on conditions), you simply re-wet the towel in hot or cold water and wring it out. Within minutes it is cool again. It is also machine washable.

I tried to find some around here the other day and didnt see them.   They work great.

I did find a cheapo thing at Academy that works too, but its not quite as good.   It was called a Cool Tie, or something like that.

I picked up a chilly pad at C & H a few days ago.

It is pretty awesome.  Works great!
