Pickensville
« on: July 23, 2010, 10:24:48 PM »
The army corps has instituted a no wake zone from the aliceville dam north past the Raleigh Ryan ramp do to a channel dredging project.  They anticipate it being in effect until the first of the year.

Yes, from the Raleigh Ryan landing down to the dam in the river run.

That is only a short ways. They are widening the river by removing part of the island south of the bridge. Was down there last night and they are working 24/7 apparently. Lots of big equipment.

Memory lane: That cut mouth on the right going down toward the dam just past the bridge(that runs back around to the rip-rap at the dam). Back in the late 70's there was a BASS affiliated tournament where one of the old BASS pro's made his debut with a proto-type lure. He won the tournament hands down right there in the mouth of the cut. That lure happens to be the "do-nothin worm".

Yes, Jack Chancellor.

Since I posted that, I have looked at the BASS records and can't find the facts on this. I know this was true because that was big news back then and everybody was talking about it(That he won it on the do-nuthin worm on P'ville in that particular creekmouth). The patent on th lure is dated 1982. Maybe it was a RedMan event?? or some open tournament, like the St.Jude tournaments they use to have over there.

Rode down there yesterday and they are still working. Looks like they will be down there a while. They also have a sign up stating the NO WAKE ZONE at the landing but I didn't see any bouys so not sure how far it goes. Be sure if you go down there, look for the bouys.

The map showed it about 1/2 between the landing and the upstream entrance to the old channel.
