Saturday's weather
« on: April 07, 2008, 06:34:04 PM »
Friday: Showers and thunderstorms likely. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 79. Chance of precipitation is 60%.

Friday Night: Showers and thunderstorms likely. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 56. Chance of precipitation is 60%.

Saturday: A slight chance of showers. Partly cloudy, with a high near 70. Chance of precipitation is 20%

NW Winds 14-19 mph, Gusts to 34

Friday is listed as being in the "slight" catagory for severe weather.

Do we have a "repeat" in store? (Weather wise)

The real problem would be if Friday's forecast slips into Saturday.  NOAA's thinking at the moment:

STRONG TO SEVERE STORMS LOOK POSSIBLE ON FRIDAY AS A DEEP UPPER
LOW PUSHES A COLD FRONT INTO THE STATE FRIDAY MORNING AND
AFTERNOON. FORECAST SOUNDINGS ARE VERY IMPRESSIVE BY FRIDAY
AFTERNOON WITH ALL TYPES OF SEVERE WEATHER A POSSIBILITY. THIS
SYSTEM SLOWS DOWN RIGHT OVER THE AREA FRIDAY EVENING WITH
LINGERING RAIN CHANCES OVER THE SOUTHEAST SATURDAY MORNING.

MODELS ARE REMAINING CONSISTENT WITH THE COLD ADVECTION PATTERN
OVER THE WEEKEND AND INTO EARLY NEXT WEEK. HIGHS WILL BE IN THE
60S WITH LOWS IN THE 30S AND 40S

Could be a cold rain on Saturday morning.  Will continue to monitor the possibility of severe weather throughout the week.  If timing changes, we will have to make a decision on go or postpone.  Right now, looks like the nasty stuff will  be Friday afternoon and Saturday will be dealing with leftovers.

One more cautionary note:  The Tombigbee was FULL of wood on Sunday.  Extreme care will be needed if Friday's storms are gully washers and put more wood into the system.  Many would have taken a lower unit and several would have sunk a boat outright.

As of 11:00 am this morning the river level was 113.22 at Bevill Lock and Dam and falling. That is only a couple of feet above normal so it should be back to normal by tomorrow. If we get the rain that they are calling for Friday then by Saturday morning the river will on the rise again which will probably make the river like an obstacle course. By the way Bob, did you have any luck Sunday?

Enough that the good practice/bad tournament jinks should be in effect.   ???

NOAA still have the timing of the next major cold front/severe weather as Friday afternoon.
