And some verbage to go along with those numbers:

From the 33/40 weather center.....

UH OH:   Another powerful weather system will start to affect Alabama by Monday.  It will feature a powerful upper trough/upper low.  Rain and storms will break out Monday afternoon and Monday night.  It will be very windy.  For severe weather, the key will be the track of the surface low.  For now it looks like the greatest threat will be over Southeast Alabama south and east of Montgomery.  Cold air will start to spread into Alabama after midnight Tuesday.  Our temperatures will be in the 30s on Tuesday with strong winds and the possibility of snow showers.  A big snow is likely over parts of Tennessee and Kentucky.   While snow accumulations seem unlikely with warm ground and temperatures slightly above freezing, with a big upper level low directly over us, the dynamic cooling could overcome these factors and produce a significant snow.  It will be interesting to watch this situation unfold.

SECOND SYSTEM:   A cold front will settle down into Alabama on Thursday.  Meanwhile, low pressure may be developing over the western Gulf of Mexico.  This could set up a cold, overrunning rain or icing even for parts of North Alabama late Thursday night into Friday morning.  It takes a special set of ingredients to come together for a freezing rain event, but when it does, the results can be disastrous.  We will have to monitor the situation for the possibility of something in that time frame.   Colder and drier air will spread in for the weekend.

33/40 have revised their forecast a little for the end of the week. Now they are saying lows in the mid 20's and highs in the low 50's and not quite as windy. North winds 5 to 10.
Maybe they will miss it and it will be at least in the 60's. At least they took the ice part out.

NOAA's two cent worth as of this morning - to summarize today's and Thursday's - an old fashion butt kicking and nothing to worry about and then ...

USHER A THIRD DISTURBANCE SOUTHWARD THROUGH THE PLAINS FRIDAY AND FRIDAY NIGHT. THIS ARCTIC AIRMASS LOOKS  V E R Y  COLD....A CLIPPER WITH AN ATTITUDE. BASED ON THE WAY THINGS ARE LOOKING... WOULD DEFINITELY HOLD OFF ON ANY MAJOR PLANTING IN THE GARDEN UNTIL AFTER THIS EVENT. ANY TENDER PLANTS THAT MAY BE BUDDING TOMORROW MAY NEED PROTECTION. I HAVE GONE SEVERAL DEGREES BELOW GUIDANCE FRIDAY NIGHT AND SATURDAY...AND I STILL MAY BE SEVERAL DEGREES TOO WARM BEFORE IT IS ALL OVER. THE GOOD NEWS IS THAT MOISTURE WILL BE LIMITED...BUT WITH THAT SHARP A COLD FRONT...EXPECT ANY MOISTURE ALONG THE FRONT TO EASILY BE SQUEEZED OUT OVERNIGHT IN THE FORM OF SNOW.

THE GOOD NEWS IS THAT IT IS SPRING AND THERE SHOULD BE PLENTY OF
SUN SATURDAY AND SUNDAY. EXPECT TEMPS TO BOUNCE BACK NICELY BY
SUNDAY AND MONDAY...WITH TEMPS HEADED TO NEAR NORMAL BY MONDAY.

Crap.  Just our luck.

Weather.com ---- >  Sunny. Highs in the upper 40s and lows in the upper 20s.

I'm not ready to fish in the cold again.

The closer it gets, the worse it looks. This morning Fox 6 showed snow Saturday morning.

Now if it was cold and snowing I would love it.    Had a great day fishing one time in the snow.  Plus we could all make snow angels at the ramp.

I have fished P'ville when it was like 2 to 4* before( you could not PAY me to do that again though!). We were dragging jigs off the ice sheets around the edges. Matter of fact, when we backed the boat in it took us a minute to realize that the boat was sitting ON TOP of the ice. Had to get out and break the ice out so we could put in. Broke it out with a tire tool, mushroom anchors(on ropes) and a homemade push-pole, whatever we could find to break it out enough to put in.

Anyway, A Pickens County reporter ;) said it was going to be 40+* for take-off and go up into the high 50's or low 60's sat. We'll have to watch for further development on that prediction ;D(shoot, I hope he's right!)

NOAA discussion guy/gal was ambivalent today - begged off the cold/snow vs. sunny and warming through the day scenarios for another day.

It will definitely be a case of "any time, any place" however the weather shakes out - the one thing we can tell for certain is that the days before the tournament will be dominated by shifting weather patterns.

As long was we are not dodging lightning or tornados it will be OK.

Jackie, you might get to do your snow angels at the boat ramp Saturday morning.

Both the GFS and the NAM show a decent chance of the rain changing to snow before ending over the northern half of Alabama in the period from midnight Friday night until 8:00 a.m. Saturday.

REST OF THE WEEKEND: Light snow flurries could continue during the day Saturday, and it will be cold and blustery. We might have a hard time getting out of the 30s with interval of sunshine by afternoon.

Sounds like a fun day to fish.

Im not ready for that for sure.   I am going to stay in the rod box while Wade fishes.

I guess I'll have to get my hunting clothes back out. Ellis will probably have a propane heater with him.

NOAA guy/gal was very uncertain about where the low will track (north/south).  Temperature and wrap around precipitation will depend a great deal on that.  It will also influence wind speeds.  No hint of needing lake wind advisories.  They were leaning toward a northern storm track - Meridian to Huntsville - and my guess is that will make Saturday a bit nicer (if cold and blowing can be nice, well for anyone other than a duck hunter) than if the low tracks to our south.  Either way, I'm with Shannon - the duck hunting clothes are coming back out of storage.

Check here on Friday for further updates.

For the new folks - the Board of Directors is suppose to discuss postponing the tournament for severe weather (not a problem this weekend) or lake wind advisories (a possible component of Saturday's forecast).

from the abc 33/40 websites 7 day planner:

A major storm system is getting its act together over coastal Texas and it is destined to bring miserable weather conditions to a wide area. The future track of that low-pressure area determines greatly who will get what. This is what I call gumbo soup weather, because there are so many ingredients.
This storm system will produce heavy rain, severe thunderstorms and possibly even a tornado, heavy snow, sleet...you name it.

Not everywhere, mind you. Let us start over with severe weather. A Tornado Watch was in effect this afternoon for SE Texas. There is a slight risk of severe weather for SE Texas today. Tomorrow that slight risk area will shift over to extreme South Alabama, the southern 1/3 of Georgia and most of the state of Florida.

THE ALABAMA STORY:  One of our favorite weather models projects the low-pressure area tracking across South and SE Alabama and up through Georgia. Another one brings the low close to Birmingham by nightfall Friday and to along the Tennessee border by midnight. If the low tracks more to the SE, that will increase our chance of snow. Snow is a huge topic of conversation in our area today. Here is what we think based on all of the evidence we can study at the moment. The rain will start late tonight, mostly after midnight. Rain will be widespread Friday morning. We could even hear some thunder during the morning hours. The rain should taper off by afternoon, but not completely end.

Meanwhile, colder air will be spreading into the state from the NW and the rain may change to light snow late Friday night, probably after midnight. Saturday is going to be very cold with NW winds 15 to 30 mph and high temperatures probably not getting out of the upper 30s. Look for morning snow showers or snow flurries here in Central Alabama. If there is going to be any accumulation, the better chance will be up over the extreme north and NE, especially in the higher terrain of NE Alabama. One or two inches possible in those areas. With a developing storm like this, there will be changes, so tomorrow morning's forecast will be much more definitive. Sunshine will return Sunday, and Monday will be dry and warmer with a high about 65.

I am a new member.  What time will the board of directors make a decision regarding the possibility of postponing the Aliceville tournament scheduled for 3/8/08?

I guess I should have read the bylaws before asking the question.  I read in article VIII that the board of directors will make a decision 18 hours before the tournament if inclement weather is in question.  Thanks!

As of the 5:17 AM NOAA weather bulletin there was no hints of lake wind advisories for Saturday (although there was an apology for a sketchy report), so as of right now we are on.  I'll check for first update as it comes out for any hints of high winds tomorrow, but I'm thinking the curve-ball thrown last night (the southern branch of the jetstream pushing the low out early and ahead of the northern branch of the jetstream) has significantly decreased the chances of dangerous winds.

Unfortunately, it is still going to be cold (hard to believe with the temperature this morning).  Over dress, over dress, over dress.

I am more concerned with the possibility of a few slick roads in the morning. The mississippi counties that border pickens co are under a snow advisory with the possibility of 1 to 2 inches of snow. Lamar co, the co above pickens is under a winter storm watch. As we all know, bad weather doesn't follow road maps or state lines. Just something to think about.....
