Weather forecast for Old Lock 8 tournament
« on: May 08, 2008, 08:34:17 AM »
Hello all;

Here is the current NOAA weather forecast for Saturday:

FRIDAY THROUGH SATURDAY NIGHT...MOIST AND UNSTABLE AIR MASS WILL
REMAIN ACROSS THE AREA.  LIFTED INDICES DURING EACH AFTERNOON
EXPECTED TO BE MINUS 2 TO MINUS 4 AREA-WIDE.  IN ADDITION...WEAK
BOUNDARY WILL REMAIN ACROSS THE CENTRAL SECTIONS WITH A WEAK
IMPULSE FORECAST TO MOVE SOUTHEAST FRIDAY NIGHT INTO SATURDAY
MORNING ACROSS THE NORTHERN HALF OF THE AREA.  STORM PREDICTION
CENTER HAS NORTHERN THIRD OF THE AREA WITH A SLIGHT RISK OF SEVERE
STORMS TO ACCOUNT FOR THE INSTABILITY AND MOISTURE IN PLACE AS WELL
AS THE IMPULSE MOVING THROUGH.  WILL FORECAST SLIGHT CHANCE TO CHANCE POPS ACROSS THE ENTIRE AREA THROUGH THE PERIOD.  HIGHS EACH DAY MIDDLE TO UPPER 80S

Note that the forecast contains a only a slight chance of severe storms, so as of this minute we are good to go.  If the chance moves to moderate or strong the Board of Directors will meet to discuss postponing.  If you have any question, check this board or the club hot line (391-0211).  In any case, looks like rain gear, plenty of water and ice for the livewell are all in order.

Seems to be the case every year - we move from the icebox to the oven in one tournament

Hello all,

Here is the NOAA forecast as of Friday morning:

SATURDAY THROUGH SUNDAY...ANOTHER ACTIVE WEATHER PERIOD EVOLVES AS
WARM FRONT (BOUNDARY) LIFTS NORTH ACROSS THE AREA ON SATURDAY AND
NEXT STORM SYSTEM (COLD FRONT) APPROACHES FROM THE WEST EARLY
SATURDAY NIGHT AND MOVES ACROSS LATER SATURDAY NIGHT AND EARLY
SUNDAY. BELIEVE THUNDERSTORMS WILL ONCE AGAIN FIRE IN THE VICINITY OF
THE WARM FRONT ON SATURDAY AND WILL GO WITH CHANCE POPS FOR NOW.
ANOTHER POSSIBLE SEVERE WEATHER EVENT UNFOLDS LATER SATURDAY NIGHT
AND EARLY SUNDAY AS COLD FRONT MOVES THROUGH.  VERY MOIST AND
UNSTABLE AIR MASS WILL BE IN PLACE AND AN UPPER LEVEL SPEED MAX WILL
MOVE THROUGH.  BELIEVE LINE OF STRONG TO SEVERE STORMS WILL DEVELOP
TO OUR WEST SATURDAY EVENING...THEN MOVES INTO AND ACROSS THE AREA
LATER SATURDAY NIGHT AND EARLY SUNDAY.  PRIMARY THREAT WILL BE
DAMAGING WINDS AND LARGE HAIL...BUT ISOLATED TORNADOES WILL BE
POSSIBLE GIVEN THE WIND PROFILES.

No longer of a mention of severe weather during the tournament period and therefore no reason to consider a postponement due to severe weather.

See you all tomorrow!  Everyone should try to be on the water by or right after 5 AM as estimated blastoff is 5:25 and safe light (by my eyes) was earlier than that today.
