Hot weather and work
« on: July 25, 2011, 03:20:35 AM »
This past week was our "shutdown" week at work. We (maintenance) tear machines apart and rebuild or modify as needed. You couldn't have picked a worse week if you had tried. With temps running in the upper 90's and heat indices of around 110* or better each day it was a monumental task just to breath. :o
In seven days I worked 68 hours and was having trouble moving by the end of all this. Yesterday I mowed the grass for the first time in a week and just after I finished a light, cool rain set in. I sat on the patio for a couple of hours just cooling it!
On top of the hours, heat, and amount of work my truck decided to break down. I am now driving a "loaner" that I can almost get into. The gear shift is located on the floor in this car, but my truck has it on the right side of the steering column. I'm willing to bet I have washed the windshield of this car a dozen times in the last four days! ::)

Well maybe it will turn around soon and start cooling off.  Then you'll be able to say, I'm glad we got that equipment fixed when it was hot and now I can go fishing again. >:D

We were mending water gaps and spraying thorny locusts until last week.  It was extremely hot down in those holes where the spring floods took out the fences.  I'm done and have my life back so I'll have time to fish in the cool weather.

Like Jig Man said Scott, at least you got the job done and will be able to get some fishing in when it gets nicer.

My van is out of commission temporarily too. I have been hearing a lot of noise from it but only when driving it. I thought it was from the rusted out dust shields on my rear brakes. That is until I went to my partner's house Saturday before our tournament. He said it was coming from the front brakes. The sound is terrible and I have no idea yet what the problem is. I am hoping to get it fixed by tomorrow if it works out.

The heat is KILLER !  I mowed all week around the marina and when I got home at night it was a shower and horizontal until the next day. Things have stopped growing around here. We got a bit of a storm last night which helped the temps stay a little cooler today but tomorrow they're going right back up to 100.

I did get over to fish Sunday afternoon a little though and found a jig bite close to the ramp.

Ha ha . The lake is certainly up. Somewhere between 5 & 8 ft.  It hasn't hurt the fishing. I think they are holding it  while they wait for the Mississippi and the Missouri to run down a bit. I have a tourney Sun on a lake that has been about 12 to 14 ft high since May.

Okay, then I wasn't seeing things  :)  I thought by now all the lakes would be down to normal. I kind of wish some of ours were a little higher.
