Thank You GETFISHED !!!!!
« on: July 25, 2011, 05:52:23 AM »
That towel wrapped around ice and hung over the back of the neck is the best weather beater I have run across.  I had to take Bear out every morning last week.  It was around 80° at 5 am and around 95° by noon when I put out the fire and called in the dogs.

I would not have made it that long without the cooling effects of the ice.  I did make one mistake and used a new purple towel the first day.  That ruined one of my fishing shirts. :(

A trip to Dollar General and some new WHITE towels did the trick.

Thanks again for the tip.

BTW:  Do you know how many batteries it would take to power an air conditioned vest all day long? ;D

it does work.

I was out in it all weekend too.  I was so hot I had to go dive to the bottom of a quarry at 114 ft to cool off. ;D

When doing Hazmat practice stuff in a fully-encapsulated suit we would wear a vest with little pockets sewn on across chest and back. These held small ice-packs. You know, the hard plastic type that can be refrozen time after time. But I think the cold towel behind the neck is a good idea. It also helps keep you awake when driving all day/night.

Carter , I did some Haz-Mat training in the mid 90's in a full protection suit. We didn't have the cool packs.   Some of the guys would put on the complete suit and then they freaked with claustrophobia. It almost got me too but I just concentrated super hard on the task at hand and I made it all right.

Jig Man those towels and ice are a bit of trouble but they really go a long way toward keeping your core temp under control. They sell some neck chillers but I've never seen them. The towel trick is very functional. We can't all dive to the bottom.   ;D

Get, one of the things they had us do in the full suit was play volleyball. They wanted us to see how agile we were or were not in those things and how our field of view was diminished. It was fun, especially in August  ::) ;D

My little buddy #1backlasher laughed at me but one of my better investments was a straw hat from Rural King. It allows airflow around the top of your head and shade for your face and neck. I don't leave home without it! ;D
