Took a day trip
« on: October 15, 2011, 07:40:04 PM »
After spending all week house hunting and being cooped up in this hotel Rachel and I went for a day trip. We drove over to Center Hill for a look see. This country is absolutely beautiful. We let Map Quest lead us back to Nashville via backroads. The return trip took 2 & 1/2 hrs at 30 mph. I snapped a couple pics from the dam. the first one is at the dam looking uplake. The second is at the tailrace. Can you see the water running out of the bank on the far bank behind those two boats in the second pic?  Is that a spring or what? Anyone ever see that before?

That is some pretty country.  It reminds me of some spots on T Rock and Bull.  How far will you have to drive to fish it?

I also read on Grim's post about your local lake.  It sounds a lot like Pom in size and Stockton in depth.  There may be some good smallie fishing with the 18" limit.  Those Cherokee bass as they call them are a hoot when they get to be 8-12#.  I love them on Truman in the summer with a Zara Spook.  We also catch a lot of them below the Truman dam when they are running water in the spring and summer.

Buzz, that's kinda what I thought. The wife however, says it's a spring & I learned a few years back not to argue with her. HA,HA !

We are rethinking our location for a couple reasons. We have decided to pick a neighborhood closer to Old Hickory. The nature of the 2 different lakes sort of produces different environments for both man & fish. It appears Old Hickory is more of a river run type lake, shallower and with more grass and shallow water hazards. I believe from what I can tell this tends to steer the party crowd & water gnats over to Percy Priest. Since both lakes are fairly close to Nashville the partying crowd is probably significant & I need to steer clear of that. Old Hickory, on the other hand, fishes more to my style, shallower and junk fishing.

I will be adding a couple more spinning combos to the arsenal though. I think I will need them for the clear water finesse bite on Percy Priest & Center Hill. Center Hill looks to be an incredibly beautiful and awesome fishery. It looks like it'll be about 1 to 1 & 1/2 hours from The neighborhood where I hope to wind up.

I fly back to toto land this evening to pack up everything. Rachel had to report to her new position so fast that I am left to do this myself. Even though we had a huge moving sale about 3 weeks ago we still have accumulated way too much STUFF on that little 7 acre hobby farm over the last 9 yrs.

I hope I can make quick work of everything so I can get it moved and get back for the boat .

Jig Man, you're gonna have to tell this jayhawker what a Cherokee bass is. I am thinking it is either a small jaw or a striped.

It is a hybrid: female striper crossed with a male white.  It is comonly called a hybrid or by the uneducated a wiper.

Steve,
Before my wife and I bought the house we are in now we lived in an apartment for a few years. Not a big place, but with two bedrooms it kept us well. Come moving day it took a moving van, a 16’ trailer, several pickup truck loads, 8 adults, and a handful of grandkids to get the job done! I do not envy you about now.

If the wife say’s it’s a spring…..I’m ok with that.

Looks like your moving to some really nice country. Having the “problem” of figuring out which body of water you would rather live near is a dream come true!  ;D

Ha ha, Jig Man that's what we call em here, wipers. LOL Just last night I was reading my B.A.S.S. TIMES while waiting to board at the airport and there was a small piece in there about the cherokee bass. What a coincidence.

Right On Pondhopper !  I made it back last night late and today the tractor goes on Craigs list while I start packing. I'll be busy for a while.
