On Wednesday I went with Big T to Bull Shoals lake to see if any sandies or eyes were in the upper part. It was cold, windy, and lots of current as water was pulled out of the Bull Shoals dam. When I left my house (elevation about 1250') it was 42°. 60 miles south at Forsyth (elevation about 860') it was 24°. That was a shocker.
Anyway we stumbled around all day long and only found fish in one spot. The were at the end of an underwater gravel bar where it leads to the river channel. We wound up with 52 fish including a big white drum, a big carp, 1 walleye, 29 sandies, 10 specs, and 10 assorted black bass. These fish were from 22-27 feet deep. Every fish was caught on one of my stingers using a 1/4 oz head.
On Thursday I took him to Cape Fair on Table Rock looking for specs. We found the same weather conditions: 44° at my house and 25° at Cape only 30 miles from my house and (elevation 951).
Needless to say we did not motor very far either morning.
We found the specs on a gravel bar that empties into the Flat Creek. They were way shallower than the Bull fish. These fish were from 8-12 feet. Once again all fish were caught on my stingers using a 1/16 oz head. Pink/chartreuse and black/chartreuse were the best of the many colors we used.
I don't care what they are, I'll take 50 fish in January any day.
