Bass Busters Jon Boat Club.
« on: August 08, 2006, 02:22:46 PM »
Back in the early 90's I was fishing a few big boat tournaments in NC until I ran into this club on a lake one morning that were using Jon boats with trolling motors only. After talking to them I liked the idea of what they had going so I went out and picked me up a tin can Jon boat to fish some of these events. After a couple years fishing with these guys I found myself fishing less big boat tournaments and more of the Jon boat tournaments. At the time there were 3 Jon boat clubs going on in my area but as time went on it fell back to one club and that one was having problems staying to together so in 1999 I started my own Jon boat club called Bass Busters. I started out with 12 boats to get this club rolling then the next year that other club fell apart so a few of them came over to join my club. Over the next couple years we became the biggest Jon boat club ever to happen in NC and to this day we are still going strong with 30 teams fishing with us each year. I had caped it off at 30 boats as that was all the permits would allow us. Since last year when gas prices ski rocketed I have been asked to allow more boats to join into our club as many have parked their gas hog glitter rockets and want to join up with us. I have since picked up another permit to allow 45 boats for 2007 so it looks like we will move up next year with a few more teams. All my tournaments are 100% payback plus the membership fees pay for all permits and a club cook out at the end of the year then the remaining money pays the top 5 teams in the year standings. We also have a big-fish pot that pays 100% back to the team with the biggest fish at the end as well. If anyone would like more information about us then visit us at our website called Bass Busters. There you will find our rules, standings and tournaments. We also have two other Jon boat tournaments listed on our site that we put together to fish between our club tournaments. One is called You The Man that is a single man Jon tournament then we have a team tournament on the river called River Rats. Thanks for taking the time to look over our small club and hope to see some of ya come join in the fun with us.

Joe, I want to thank you for your support of our club. I hope we all can do good by your baits. I'll be in touch with an order soon cause I want to be first to use your lures to whoop them boys before they all get 'em  ;) Thanks again rat.

Hey Rat, Welcome to the board. Glad to see you made it over here and will be the first one to place an order with our new sponsor. Joe is a great guy and makes some very nice baits. I know you throw them jigs a lot so I better get my act together before you get your baits in. ;D

Well folks it was another tough day out there dealing with the dinks. We caught at least a dozen or more bass today but only had three to bring in to the scales. Two under and one over is the best we could do. We had a lot of rain over the past couple days plus a front came through Friday night making the temps fall some Sat then a lot today. Went from being in the 80's at day break to 58 degrees this morning. Had to put sleeves and long paints on for this blast off. Once the sun came up she heated up fast but the big fish still did not bite much at all. Big fish for the day was 3.14 lbs. We came in 6th place with 6.0 lbs. Even though we did not win we still moved ahead four more pounds in the year standings. We are now 16 lbs ahead leading this pack. If we can stay consistent like this I feel we have a shot at holding first place for the year.

Best part about this tournament today was the team that won first place & big fish pot has never won anything in our club tournaments since they started with us from the beginning of last year. Hats off to Chris & Derrick for hanging in there with us to Git-R-Done. They are now hooked in this tournament game for life. They also won 2nd place in the rat tournament last weekend to be their first time ever winning any money in all three different tournaments we hold.

Congrats to all these guys that won today.

1st Place & BF Pot: Chris & Derrick, Hats off to you guys for pulling this one off. Its been a long time coming for ya no doubt.

2nd Place: Jerry & Scott, Jerry has been out of service for the last month with health problems and had an operation as well. Glad to have him back with us.

3rd Place: Greg & Charlie, Here is a visiting team that has only fished this river once in their life and that was last weekend in the rat tournament. WTG Guys on taking 3rd place winnings home fishing unknown water.

Now we have to wait two weeks before the next club tournament being held on that sorry no count Jordan Lake. Yippee I can't wait... Oh yeah we have the You The Man on Jordan next sunday as well.  :(  Maybe I will get lucky and find a keeper over 16" to bring into these next two tournaments. Jordan is slam full of 14" to 15" fish but they refuse to lower the size limit for some ungodly reason.

Looks like we will be fishing another tough tournament this Sunday. Major front rolling in tomorrow night. Seems to be an every weekend thing here in NC. We will be on Jordan lake to make things that much worse.  :(

Well folks here is the lay down on Today's Tournament. It  more less started out as a dink day for everyone, 10 boats out of 18 had a fish or two to bring in. Cookie and I was one of those teams to have two keeper fish. Congrats to Josh & Donny on first place with 10.4 lbs. This was their first win for the year. Second place to Randy & Steve with 7.15 lbs and Third place to Cookie & I with 7.3 lbs. Congrats to Jevon & Waylon on big fish pot for the day weighing 4.8 lbs. This is another team that has not won anything this year until today. Hats off to both teams for stepping up to show everyone that it can happen at any given tournament so never give up hope. Cookie & I would of had second place but my BF was gutted very deep and died on us. We lost a pound for dead fish that costed us second place. It happens in the heat of summer plus the old Hawg Sauce makes them suck the bait up pretty fast. When she hit me she came right to the boat so by the time I caught up with her it was to late. She had done swallowed it deep. We are now leading this pack by 21 pounds in the Year Standings. Cookie and I have a great lead on them with a total of 121.10 with a new second place team having 100.8 lbs. I bet between Cookie & I we landed over 15 bass today, I thank the fish gods for letting us have those two keepers to move up a little more in the lead. We can't afford to slip now with only 3 tournaments left then the two day classic. I told Cookie today all we need to do is keep bringing something in to weigh and we will be ok. A skunk could cost us big time so you better bet the old Hawg Sauce will be on everything we throw from here on out. Good luck to everyone over the next two weeks as that will be my next club report. Next Sunday will be the River Rat Tournament.

Another tough day on the river. Congrats to Brian & James for 1st place, David & Russell for 2nd place & BF and Chris & Derrick for 3rd place. Cookie & I just could not find any keepers to bring in but we did have two dinks to weigh-in. We are still holding the lead by just under 20 lbs. Going to be a tight run for the end as these guys are hot on our rear trying to take that lead away. Next up is Roberson Creek on that sucky Jordan lake. I am looking so forward to fishing that dink hole where no dinks can be brought in. Just hope we can find a keeper to hold us on the top. Junior & Sammy took 2nd place in the standings and they are good on Jordan Lake. I have a feeling it will be down to the wire for the classic. Two more tournaments to go then we fish the classic. Hope everyone had a great weekend.

Well folks here is the lay down of Todays Tournament on that suck ass Jordan lake. Have I ever told ya how much I hate Roberson Creek / Jordan Lake? Anyway congrats to Brian & James for 1st place, Ronnie & Neil for 2nd place & BF and Randy & Steve for 3rd place. Cookie & I caught a limit of fish if we had been anywhere other then Jordan Lake but seeings we had to through them all back let Junior & Sammy, Randy & Steve and Brian & James close the gap some. We are only 17 pounds in the lead for the Year Standings. I still say it will come down to the classic to see who wins this year. To many chances of two Jordan lakes being pulled out of the hat that could hurt Cookie and I bad. We plan to find a limit of fish in two weeks to show everyone that there are keeper fish in Fayetteville then all the cry babies will have to suck it up. :P I hope lots of boats catch a keeper then we have a shot at keeping it in the club next year. If not then I guess we will lose that river. If this happens then we need to check out Eno or some other river to take its place. We next weekend we have off from fishing. Don't know how that happen but it will give me a chance to get our deer stands trimmed out and plant new food plots so everything will be ready come opening day of deer season on Oct 14th.

I know no one took the time to check out why most of us hate Jordan so here is a list to show you a little about this dink hole:

These are some of the tournaments on Jordan Lake:

March 12th Farrington. 28 teams with only 8 teams having a keeper fish. 20 teams zeroed.

April 9th Poe's Ridge. 25 teams with only 9 having a keeper fish. 16 teams zeroed.

April 23rd Ebenezer. 25 teams with only 9 having a keeper fish. 16 teams zeroed.

September 24th @ Roberson Creek. 17 teams with 7 having a keeper fish. 10 teams zeroed. Would have been more there but they got tired of donating to this lake.

This is just the some of the tournaments from this year. Lets take a look at some of the past years and see how Jordan Lake done the club:

March 6th 2005 @ Farrington Point. 23 teams with 9 having a keeper fish. 14 teams zeroed.

April 17th 2005 @ Poe Ridge. 21 teams with 10 having a keeper fish. 11 teams zeroed.

July 24th 2005 @ Roberson Creek. 21 teams with 9 having a keeper fish. 12 teams zeroed.

October 15th 2005 @ Farrington. 13 teams with 4 having a keeper fish. 9 teams zeroed.

May 16th 2004 @ Ebenezer. 21 teams with 5 having a keeper fish. 16 teams zeroed.

July 25th 2004 @ Roberson Creek. 19 teams with 6 having a keeper fish. 13 teams zeroed.

August 22nd @ Poe Ridge. This is a killer one! 19 teams with 3 having a keep fish. 16 teams zeroed.

April 6th 2003 @ Farrington. 23 teams with 7 having a keeper fish. 16 teams zeroed.

August 24th 2003 @ Poe Ridge. 22 teams with 7 having a keeper fish. 15 teams zeroed.

The list goes on but I think this is enough to show what this lake has to offer tournaments. Not to good as you see.

WAKE UP AMERICA... Its time to go fishing. This is the last tournament for the year before we head into out two day classic in two weeks. Sure hope the fish are on for the home team to Git-R-Done for us to hold onto this lead we have for the year standings. Good luck to all on the water today. Well give a report when I return home this afternoon.

Congrats to Junior & Sammy for 1st place, Jevon & Waylon for 2nd place & BF and Robin & Bill for 3rd place. Cookie and I zeroed out once again letting our lead drop now to only 13 lbs. Some keepers were brought in this time to that show there are some in that river. Jevon had BF weighing 3.4 lbs, Nice one no doubt. We voted to not put this river in the two day classic. I am all for that vote myself as there are just to many dinks there. This also made it to be voted out next year. Now we have two Jordan's, Two Harris and one Avents that will be put in the bag Friday night 10-20-06.

Day One Results. Started off windy & cold then got windier as the day went on. Even started to whitecap out there but we all made it through. Keeper bite for Cookie & me was early with landing two keepers then 4 dinks being one here and one there type of deal. Cookie and I have the winning weight for Day One with 10.10 lbs & BF of 6.2 lbs.  Randy & Steve are hot on our heels with two keepers weighing in at 8.10 lbs. Robin & Bill holding 3rd with one keeper weighing 5.9 lbs and Brian & James holding 4th with one keeper weighing 4.7 lbs.  Junior & Sammy came in with one keeper weighing 4.5 lbs. The other 9 boats came in with zero. Cookie & I now have a 19 lb lead for the Year Standings going into day two on Holloman "Harris Lake" tomorrow. Here is a picture of my partner holding our two keepers from today:

Them looks like some nice bonuses there Crossbow( and cookie), lol.

The pic is showing three levels of cold! Coverhalls, light jacket and then T-shirt. Woof, I would be Cookie there, in the coverhalls and boggin. Are those Latex glubs on his hands(protection I take it)...hope he didn't wear them all day. I tried that once in the dead of winter, didn't take long for them to come off! Man, My hands like to have froze off. Congrats on the year Crossbow!

WAKE UP AMERICA.... Its time to go fishing.  Did I ever tell ya fishing is worse then deer hunting? Have to get up earlier, Have to drive  longer distance, Have a lot more gear to load & unload and you work your butt off casting a million times to try and land one. Is it worth all this trouble? HELL YEAH IT IS..... Day two is now fixing to get under way. Lets Git-R-Done!
