Been eyeballin' the weather....
« on: May 01, 2006, 05:17:57 PM »
...and it looks as though Tuesday of next week (the 9th) the wife and I are taking a day off and going fishing...if the weather holds-up   ::) .  I casually mentioned yesterday that Tuesday weather looked good and that we might go fishing.  We both work at the school and she called me in my office today and said..."Okay, I've informed the powers to be that we're taking a personal day off next Tuesday".

I sure hope the weather stays nice for us    :)

If the winds don't rise and it doesn't rain, we'll probably go to the Kuttawa/Lyon County ramp there at Barkley. The weekends there are pretty much booked with tourneys this month, and the parking lot & ramp gets real crowded at times.

You're right about the ramp during tournaments WW. I have fished a few tournaments out of there.  :)

Still watching the weather reports, so we're going Monday.

Yep, and the Kuttawa/Lyon County is a 3-wide ramp.  I wish they'd add a couple more courtesy docks though.

Okay, here's the after-action report   :) :  I got zeroed (again), not one bite all day, but my wife did bring in two.  We left the house at 6am this morning, and it took awhile to get to Lake Barkley due to an area where it's down to 1 lane for repairs, then we hit some really thick fog.  Finally get to the ramp and it's socked-in with fog.  There were some fellows there launching some glass boats with logoed wraps (Castrol, Lucky Craft, and one I can't recall), but we waited until there was some visibility then launched.  Immediately went to the left of the ramp and fished by the I-24 overpass, with no luck.  Usually my wife catches at least some bluegill there.  Decided to go through the channel under the overpass, and no luck there either.   Ventured out of there to a cove directly across from the ramp and that's where my wife caught her first one (bass) bottom fishing with a nightcrawler.  Our spirits picked-up after that.  Later in the day we were in another cove and she caught the catfish.  It took the hook the minute her bait hit bottom.  He was about 15" long (guessing).

Now, right after she caught the catfish a boat came near us fishing the bank.  The asian fellow on the front of the boat asked (with an accent) politely if he could pass by us.  I said sure.  I noticed that the boat (Ranger) had TX registration numbers on it.  I may be crazy, but the guy looked & sounded like Takohiro Omori.  Maybe I'd been out in the sun too long   :shrug .  Anyway, we headed to the ramp, loaded, and came home.  Still a nice day off, and the weather was great.  I posted some pics in my gallery of some shots of the harbor.  Below are the two fish my wife caught today.  Back to work tomorrow   :(

I'll bet it was Tak. There is FLW tournament there soon so he was out looking for fish. I head to Cave Run Lake with my oldest son this weekend. He is fishing a KBFNation youth tournament. He qualified for their state championship there last year. My youngest one can't fish this one. He is still healing up from a collarbone fracture. :)

Thanks GMAN.  The wife feels lucky that she caught those two.  I didn't see a lot of people pulling in hardly any yesterday.  There was a big tourney there both Saturday & Sunday, so I'm thinking the fish were "bait shy" after all the attention over the weekend.

Carter, have fun this weekend, and hope your son catches a bunch  :)
