Big cold front
« on: June 26, 2010, 07:58:15 AM »
That weatherman again lied to me.  He said things were going to cool off, so when Bigfoot invited me to go pitching with him on Friday, I cancelled my Thursday night bass plans.

He told me that I would only need my Float n Fly rods.  I could bring baits if I wanted to but they would probably not work.  I should have listened.  I took 7 boxes of things I thought would work and stubbornly used them for 2 hours losing about a dozen of them and catching 3 fish to his 30 or 40.

I broke down and borrowed one of his baits and special jig heads.  I used it all day long and caught about 50-60 specs on it.  I tend toward large baits and the fish wanted small.  The bait of the day was a 1.5" chartreuse tube on a 1/16 oz head rigged weedless with one strand of fiberguard, mounted on a 570 size 4 hook.  I have never had anything that small in my life. :D

We figure we caught at least 150 black and white crappie from 6-2:30. I found out why I needed the FnF rods.  We caught all of the fish pitching the baits and keeping out 14-18 feet of line.  FnF has been slow for us and my rods had made it to the bottom of the locker.  Now they have new life.

Needless to say that after a trip to BPS last night and some jig mold revisions, I have some of those bitty tubes and bitty jig heads.

OK now the rest of the deal with the weatherman.  The big cold front changed the temp from the normal high of 95° to the 94° that we had when we left the lake. ::)

Jig Man that “cold front” hit here also. I was off the lake by 10am yesterday! By noon it was already 94* and still climbing. Only managed 11 bass yesterday and they were dinks. Some club had a tourney but none faired to well from what I heard.
I’m use to staying out for 6 to 8 hours but in these “cold front” conditions my cold water has been running out early. ::)

7 boxes, ha ha that's funny right there. It's a real challenge to fish out of someone else's boat. I got a small benefit coming up this month to fish with a friend in his boat and I'm already having anxiety. LOL !  Sounds like you had a good outing.

Bass don't eat what they don't see.
