casting bubble
« on: July 05, 2007, 05:26:00 PM »
Anyone know of a site where they show how to rig a casting bubble? All the different ways to rig one for different approaches is what I'm after. Is a casting bubble/c-cork/c-bobber all the same thing?

Well Buzz I dont know any site but as usual I have some of the casting bubbles  ;D
In this pic I have 2 kinds ,3 sizes and 2 colors  ;D The ones at the bottom of the screen are the two types a solid (very bottom) and one that you can add water too for weight.(above it) the bottom one(solid) you tie a leader on the big end and tie the sponge spider(my lure of choice, also known as the bream getter made by betts. you can by at walmart for like .97 havent bought any in a while but that was the price when I did) The small end you tie to your line from the rod. I used a small leader so I could get it in the picture, I make mine longer to fish with. The one above you just run your line through the middle of the bobber the small end toward your rod tip. You must hold the bobber and pull the bottom(big end) out some and twist and it will twist around your line and hold it tight, at this time you can add water or not for weight. Be carfull when you put the end back into the end in your bobber or it will untwist letting the bobber slide up and down the line. I use the small solid ones for my ultralight and the bigger one for my spinning rods or baitcaster. I prefer the solid ones, just my prefrence.

Here is a pic of the spiders and poppers I use and get you one of those bugouts they work great.

If you cant find any of these let me know and Ill pick up some for you and send them your way.

I've always called those teardrop bobbers and have used them for the floatin fly method and for crappie with light jigs.

Thanks for your responses! I have an additional questions on rigging it. Don't laugh.....(too hard).
Are they, as a norm, rigged in this fashion....Place bobber stopper(little red figure 8 contraption) on main line then thread line through the narrow end eye then into the big end eye of the casting bubble. Tie on hook/jig/etc. That way you can adjust the bobber stopper(if it doesn't slip through the eye???) to depth and can make adjustments quickly if needed and not have to contend with a long leader if I fish the depths. Do you think this will work this way, properly?  I may be fishing 3/16oz. and as much as 5/16oz. on the end of the line ;D.

What's a floatin fly JackJ?

With the casting bubbles I showed you,you dont need a bobber stop the rubber tube in the middle wraps around the line and stops it for you.

Buzzbait, the casting bubbles are usually put on the line for static use (they stay where put on the line) if you want a bobber that adjusts up and down the line and is compatable to varying fishing depths, then you want a sliding bobber, and bobber stops.

The float and fly is a fishing method usually used in cold weather involving a static float and small jig or fly on a leader. This is cast out and slowly retrieved back while pulsing the rod tip and making the jig dance at the depth set. It is a very effective fishing method.
