Catfish Discovered
« on: March 11, 2010, 12:16:57 PM »
So at the end of last season I was bored with my usual spots and went searching for a new location.  I came across a brook that looked like it had some potential and threw out my bass lures and caught a few, but to my surprise I discovered that there were a massive amount of catfish located there.  What i did was tried to use inline spinners to catch them which worked at other locations sometimes.  I am looking for some input on a good way to catch them, I've heard of stinkbait and just regular worms but I need to be careful cause there are pike involved.  These are some big catfish enough to make a good wake when swimming below the surface.  Any input would help.

I would use stink bait or worms.  Hot dogs work good too.

Down south here, we tend to use raw chicken livers or hearts for them catfishes. Your local grocery store may have them but if they don't check with the meat dept. manager for them, maybe he can supply you with them. Also, catawba worms below a cork, and even your local baitfish/minnows will catch them.

The best stinkbait I ever used was called "Cat Attack" but I have not seen it around here in many, many years now. Gone by the wayside I suppose?? Any of the stinkbaits will work.

Get you a bar of Ivory soap and cut it into little chunks and you've got some good cheap bait.

Wally World has some catfish bait in a bag stuff. I believe it’s a blood bait, already balled up. It’s best if you keep it chilled, it will stay on your hook better. I always used a small treble hook and just embed it in the bait.
When my Grandfather was alive he always used a bait called Catfish Charlie. He always caught fish!
