Crappies and perch
« on: October 02, 2009, 10:32:40 AM »
Anybody going after these?

We are getting some early cold weather(and cold rain!) and the bass are getting harder to catch by shore...actually i don't have the patient this year to fish them in the cold. However it's perfect crappie and perch weather...making them more accessible by shore.

I ended up getting me some 1/32 oz tube jig and some 1.5" crappie/perch tubes. Will be throwing them on with a small skinny thrill bobber.

Going out this Sunday and try to catch a few for some fish tacos and sandwiches for my lunch over the winter.

Magic lures don't exist.

same here Jack.

But I would use what you are,  or road runners.  Road runners kill the crappie around here.

yes sir...yellow perch.  ;D

I got a few road runners.....but they are hard to hook up for me with them.I lose too many tails on those road runners.

I use the marabou ones.  That way there isnt any plastic.  Just cast, set hook, reel in fish. Repeat. ;D

Well as a matter of coincidence I just decided to go down to the pond to see if I could find a few crappie for dinner. I went looking for them to be hanging out around this

Sure enough I caught an even dozen which included two hybrid bluegill. Yum, Yum tonight.

Bass don't eat what they don't see.

You serious Buzzbait?  ??? The wood is arranged on the ice over the pond last winter. I put it out there so it would provide some structure for the pond.

 ;D

so does this mean you need to drop line size on your bass gear sooner in the year than you have been? I have seen it here on our waters that on a particular body of water you'd have to drop way down in line size just to get bit.

Seems like it.I had 2 smallmouths on but got off due to bad hookset.

The funny thing was they got the bait, but my bobber never went down or did it move. The bite was horribly light! They just inhaled it and then just sitting there not moving anywhere.I could not figure that out for the life of me.I'm thinking about getting me some of those float n fly bob's bobbers.

I agree, those yellow perch are downright tasty! Blumack, the biggest I caught was maybe 12" up at Lake Erie in the Western Basin.

I think the biggest recorded is 4 pounds somewhere in U.S.

The ones i catch are barely over 1 pound around here...about 12"-14" in length.
